Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the University Hospitals Dorset MSK Therapy Team for a full time clinician the lead the therapy service for private patients seen within University Hospitals Dorset.

Predominantly working as a clinical MSK and orthopaedic clinician, the post holder will act as clinical lead for the private patient therapy. This will involve managing a varied caseload covering private inpatient care and outpatient MSK services. The post-holder will hold leadership responsibilities within the wider MSK therapy team including clinical supervision and service development.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in an innovative and growing service, providing the highest quality of care for patients and leading the development of a growing and evolving service to shape it for the future.

Main duties of the job

To take a clinical leadership role in the delivery of therapy services to private patients treated at University Hospitals Dorset and participate in the leadership of UHD MSK Therapy services.

This post will predominantly involve the delivery of inpatient and outpatient clinical care for post-operative patients, outpatient MSK clinics and co-ordination/delivery of the clinical care of other surgical specialities where required.

The post holder will provide skilled leadership and responsibility for service development, the setting and monitoring of standards of practice and implement policy and policy changes in own clinical area. Furthermore, will participate and lead quality improvement projects across MSK Therapy and make recommendations to the team and service leads.

About us:

Private Health University Hospitals Dorset (PHUHD) is a registered charity, owned by UHD NHS foundation trust and delivered at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. All profits from this private service are directed back into the NHS hospital trust to support core NHS activity and capital projects.

PHUHD is a growing service, with expansion planned to enable the delivery of private care across at the Poole Hospital site also.

This role involves enhanced practice, and the successful candidate will be supported in the training and delivery of Non-Medical prescribing and Non-Medical referral for imaging to support their core practice.

Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Christchurch Hospital and Poole Hospital

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Continued professional development diary including evidence of reflective practice, in service training and courses attended
  • Post-graduate courses relevant to the clinical speciality
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised post-graduate qualification e.g MSc or equivalent experience
  • Post graduate courses or experience in clinical governance
  • NHS QI or research qualification
  • Achieved or working towards independent prescriber registration
  • Previous experience as a Non-Medical referrer for imaging

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad range of experience at Band 5 level
  • Experience at Band 6 level
  • Experience of managing other therapists
  • Audit, research and quality improvement
  • Student supervision/clinical education
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience at Band 7 level
  • Experience of private healthcare physiotherapy
  • Evidence of leading robust service improvements

Skills

  • Skills for the assessment and treatment for a range of complex conditions
