Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Radiology Nursing team and are seeking Registered Nurses or Operating Department Practitioners wishing to develop their career and skills within the imaging specialty of Radiology & Interventional Radiology. Full time, part time hours are available and also have you considered a secondment?
The varied nature of this specialty means there is always something new and interesting to learn. The post consists of a variety of roles including working as a scrub assistant for sterile interventional procedures, circulating duties for recording patients’ observations, IV drug administration and managing patient care from pre-procedure through to post-procedure recovery.
The post requires participation in the Interventional Radiology on-call service which is fully operational to cover out of hour’s emergencies both week day evenings/nights and weekends.
Working hours: Monday to Friday 7.5hrs/day (with a potential opportunity to move to a 9-day fortnight roster in the future)

Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital with potential requirement to work at Poole Hospital on occasion.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Experienced registered 1st Level Nurse with a minimum of one years working experience or evidence of the required transferable skills.
- Registered with the NMC.
Desirable criteria
- A Post Basic Qualification appropriate to this speciality
Experience
Essential criteria
- Either surgical/medical/theatre experience in the acute care setting. .
- Experience in pre and post procedural care of Day Care or Short Stay Surgery or Investigations.
Desirable criteria
- Experience with caring for patients who have undergone interventional radiological procedures.
Technical skills
Essential criteria
- Experience or awareness of aseptic scrub skills and techniques
- Working in a theatre style environment required for major Interventional Radiology procedures.
- IV drug administration or willing to undertake
- Basic Life Support with adjuncts and willing to advance to next level of Immediate Life Support, ILS.
- Computer skills
- Experienced in complying with working Policies and SOP’s, Infection Control and Risk Management Policies set by previously employing health care organisations
Desirable criteria
- Central venous devices access management
- Totally implanted venous access devices management.
- Willing to learn venepuncture and cannulation
- Blood Transfusion competencies.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- An understanding of nursing care requirements for the provision of pre and post care for surgical and or radiological interventions and medical investigations
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles of aseptic technique and infection control.
- Knowledge of Data protection act and patient confidentiality
- Willing to develop one’s own knowledge base and clinical and organisational skills.
- To demonstrate the ability to reflect upon practice in order to gain insight into clinical practice, self-growth and development within a specialist area.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of caring for patienst with peripheral vascular , gastrointestinal and urological disease,
- Has attended study days or gained experience within specialities associated with or in working partnership with Interventional Radiology
Other requirements
Essential criteria
- Adaptable to emergency situations and pressurised envirioment.
- Ability to cope with rapid through-put of patients and meeting individual patient needs.
- Participate in on call service.
- The wearing of lead aprons (PPE) during diagnostic, fluoroscopy and interventional procedures
- Motivated and adaptable to change
Desirable criteria
- Working in support services sector.

- Experience in the provision of sessional services or time tabled care provision

- Be able to speak English as necessary to undertake the role
