Job overview
We are seeking a highly qualified General Surgical Consultant to join our team on a 1-year fixed term locum basis to cover maternity leave. The successful candidate will join a team of 4 Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) surgeons at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH) site and 4 UGI surgeons at the Poole General Hospital (PGH) site.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:

Participate in a 1:9 General Surgical Consultant non-resident on-call rota at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital site.

Provide elective surgical and endoscopy services across three hospital sites: Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Poole General Hospital, and Wimborne Community Hospital.

Perform elective operating lists, endoscopy procedures, and outpatient clinics as per the weekly job plan.

Potential for involvement in oesophago-gastric cancer resectional surgery, Bariatric surgery and advanced endoscopic procedures, including robotic surgery.

Proficiently perform laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernia repairs, and antireflux surgery.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Indicative Weekly Job Plan:

All Day Elective Operating List: 1 day per week

Theatre Session: Half day per week

Endoscopy List: Half day per week

Clinic List: Half day per week

Supporting Professional Activities (SPA): 1 session per week

Total Activity: 11 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week (about 3.5PA 1:9 Emergencies)
Qualifications and Requirements:

Fully qualified to work as a Consultant Surgeon in the NHS.

JAG accredited endoscopist with an interest in advanced endoscopic procedures.

Experience or interest in oesophago-gastric cancer resectional surgery, bariatric surgery in UGI surgical areas.

Proficiency in laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernia repairs, and antireflux surgery.

MMR vaccination status ideally known at the time of application.

- Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT (proposed date must be within 6 months), CESR or ECR

- Proficient in UGI endoscopy
- Appropriate training at StR level for general & UGI surgery
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of further training in abdominal wall surgery

Qualifications

- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- FRCS or equivalent
