Job overview

Dorchester County Hospital is looking for a Team Leader Band 3/4 for the Radiology administration team.  The post holder with have excellent communication skills and be able to empathise, motivate and negotiate.  The post holder will be responsible for a team based at South Walks House.  Rotation on to Dorchester County Hospital included. 

We have a history of staff development and invest in their education, with many clinical and non-clinical staff undergoing further education, ranging from short courses to Master level qualifications. Banding will be determined based on experience, we are open to a development programme to progress to Band 4 within this role. 

Main duties of the job

  • Management of administrative duties for the Radiology team based in South Walks House including appointment scheduling and HR processes
  • Line manager for all clinical administrative staff based in South Walks House. The line management includes appraisals, sickness management, recruitment, flexible working and training.
  • Ensuring the scheduling and appointing of patients is compliant with the Trust Access Policy.
  • Ensure all administrative functions are covered by Standard Operating Procedures and meet QSI requirements
  • To make patient appointments for all modalities as always required following departmental policies and guidelines. 
  • To deal with enquiries from patients, staff and visitors including by telephone and email.
  • Responsible for accurate input of patient information onto the Radiology Information Systems.

The Radiology department at Dorset County Hospital is an innovative and growing department.  Radiology currently has 2 CT and 2 MRI scanners, a highly skilled Ultrasound department, Interventional and Fluoroscopy along with X-ray and Mammography.  We are expanding with a CT scanner in the Weymouth site, and in addition x-ray and ultrasound in the South Walks Site.  The New Emergency Department, due in 2025, will have x-ray and CT services included.

Dorset County Hospital is in the county town of Dorchester which has good rail links to Southampton, Bristol and London and boasts highly rated schools.  Dorset is a delightful place to live and work with the choice of coast or country for leisure activities.  Dorchester has undergone a major refurbishment with lots of bars and restaurants providing evening entertainment.  The seaside town of Weymouth is nearby with lots of water sports opportunities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The post holder will need to have excellent communication skills, to empathise, motivate, persuade and negotiate in the course of line management of the administrative team, and deal with outside agencies.
  • Will be required to communicate complex, highly sensitive and sometimes contentious information. May be required to investigate complaints, grievance and disciplinary issues relating to staff, taking statements and documentary evidence.
  • Required to communicate with all levels of staff within and outside of the organisation; Consultants, GPs, nursing, administrative in the course of the job, passing on confidential and complex information on patient results.
  • Required to deal sensitively with patient complaints, empathising and diffusing situations.
