Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate individual to join our Cancer Services Team.

They will be expected to provide comprehensive PA and administrative support to the Lead Cancer Nurse and other key staff and cancer services as directed with administrative tasks as necessary to assist in the smooth, efficient and effective running of the service. Having excellent communication skills and the ability to work flexibly are essential for this role.

Main duties of the job

The Cancer Services Administrator will be responsible for human resources administration tasks such as recruitment, annual leave, sickness and maintaining records as required. They will provide administrative and secretarial support to the Acute Oncology Service, Consultant Oncologist based at Dorset County Hospital and Palliative/End of Life Care Team. To liaise with the chemotherapy team regarding meetings, policies and training records. Analyse and record data using computer systems to produce charts and graphs.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • GCSE (grade C or above) in English and Maths or equivalent
  • RSA Stage III Word Processing or equivalent
  • NVQ level 3/BTEC in administration/supervisory management or equivalent level of experience

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • At least 2 years admin or secretarial experience within the last 3 years.
  • Good, proven experience of using Microsoft Office i.e. Word, Excel, in the working environment.
  • Experience of using IT systems, extracting data and developing simple reports.
  • Experience of communicating with staff at all levels within an organisation.
Desirable criteria
  • At least 6 months NHS experience within the last 2 years.
  • Experience of interpreting guidance and providing clear explanations for other team members on the contents.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Essential criteria
  • Excellent keyboard skills with evidence of ability to type from direct dictation at speed with accuracy.
  • Evidence of ability to successfully organise meetings and write clear, concise & accurate minutes.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills both written and oral with proven report writing skills.
  • Evidence of ability to respond quickly to changing priorities, organising and prioritising own and others’ workload to meet deadlines.
  • Evidence of ability to work both individually and as a team member with minimal supervision.
  • An understanding of the meaning of confidentiality in the NHS and the requirement for this to be maintained in respect of both patients and staff
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of basic statistical methodologies with evidence of ability to collect, record accurately and analyse data.
  • Evidence of ability to develop systems to promote efficient and effective working within the service.
