We are recruiting flexibly employed Radiography Assistants in the Diagnostic Imaging Department. The Radiography Assistant is essential for the smooth running of the Diagnostic Imaging service, supporting both the patients and staff.
Main duties of the job
The role includes:
- Clinical support and patient care during imaging procedures.
- Assisting in movement of beds, wheel chairs, and patients using manual handling equipment provided.
- Preparing the clinical rooms for procedures.
- Entering data into the radiology computer system.
- Communicating with members of staff outside of the department to arrange complex scanning procedures.
We are looking for a motivated and caring individual who is ready to learn new skills and join our friendly team.
The department operates a seven day service and shifts involve evenings, weekends and community hospital sites.

The team in the Diagnostic Imaging department are supportive and flexible in their approach. Working for Dorset County Hospital provides the comfort of a team approach in a large organisation providing care to the patients of West Dorset.
Our busy, modern hospital provides a full range of district general services and links with satellite units in five community hospitals. We are a designated trauma unit and part of the Wessex Trauma network. The hospital has secured funding for a new emergency department and intensive care unit to be completed in 2027. The hospital is nationally recognised for research and audit activity.
Dorset County Hospital is in the county town of Dorchester which has good rail links to Southampton, Bristol and London and boasts highly rated schools. Dorset is a delightful place to live and work with the choice of coast or country for leisure activities. Dorchester has undergone a major refurbishment with lots of bars and restaurants providing evening entertainment. The seaside town of Weymouth is nearby with lots of water sports opportunities.

Education
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in health and social care
Experience
Essential criteria
- Patient care – experience of working with patients, vulnerable groups
Desirable criteria
- Time spent in radiology department
Skills, abilities and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence of ability to communicate with patients, relatives and all levels of staff throughout the organisation
- Evidence of ability to work under pressure
- Evidence of ability to work on own initiative but also as part of a team
- An understanding of the meaning of confidentiality and the requirement for this to be maintained
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of basic computer skills
- Understanding of the radiology department
