Job overview

The post will be a part of the Acute/General Medical Registrar team at Dorset County Hospital, taking a share of the on call duties. This will include full and equal access to educational and clinical supervision as well as internal educational and training opportunities and funded study leave. Access to an ePortfolio will be offered. The successful applicant will be offered the opportunity to gain experience in the specialty of their choice, on an inpatient, outpatient or procedure basis (subject to capacity in a few specialties).

Main duties of the job

The post has a core service purpose to support the safe delivery of care to the wards and acute unselected medical on call rota. It is recognised that access to specialty training posts can be limited and prior experience can be valuable. Exposure to a specialty at Registrar grade can help to clarify the level of interest in obtaining a training post and for some people the choice between specialties may not yet be fully formed.

Working for our organisation

Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s purpose is to deliver compassionate and safe health care to our patients. We are the acute and specialist healthcare provider for our communities, delivering high quality care to meet our patients’ expectations.

The Trust has received positive and improving feedback from its junior doctors on GMC and deanery training surveys. It has a strong track record of past trainees returning to the trust to take up consultant posts and of innovative approaches to patient care, such as the Acute Hospital At Home (AHAH).

‘The DCH Way’ – Integrity, Respect, Teamwork and Excellence. Are the Trust Values that staff have signed up to, to further improve care for patients and continue to make DCH a great place to work.

The hospital has an active and inclusive doctors mess, who arrange frequent social activities. The hospital has a friendly ethos, with a good relationship between junior doctors and consultants. This extends to social and sporting activities such as the annual consultants vs juniors cricket match, various balls and the annual hospital sketch show

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
