Are you looking for a  role that allows you to make a real difference to a patient's quality of life? If so, we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, dynamic and flexible registered nurse or orthoptist to join our expanding  Intravitreal injection service.

 The post holder should be  dynamic and passionate about delivering exceptional eye care. Full training for the role will be provided. Applicants with previous experience in intravitreal injections and the relevant training and qualification are welcome.

The post holder, will  autonomously undertaking holistic assessment examination in order to implement management plans for ophthalmic patients.

  • Independently administer Intravitreal injections to patients within the Ophthalmology setting, ensuring high quality of care.
  • Demonstrate highly developed specialist ophthalmic knowledge, practical skills and procedures, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant clinical skills
  • Autonomously manage identified case lists of intravitreal injection patients requiring assessment, treatment and review, consulting with senior clinicians as necessary.
  • To work closely with the Nurse Leader, multidisciplinary teams and operational managers to provide high quality and cost-effective patient focused services as part of the department management team.
  • Participate in the delivery of formal and informal teaching for the department staff and act as a resource for education and development within the service.

  • Work collaboratively with the nursing team to deliver ophthalmic nursing services in accordance with the NMC Code and Trust policies.
  • Work collaboratively with the departmental team to deliver the ophthalmology service in accordance with the Trust policies, procedures and protocols ensuring that the service is delivered within the allocated resources.
  • Record, maintain and store an accurate record system in line with trust information governance guidance and collect relevant statistical information for the purpose of evaluating patient care.
  • Develop and act as a lead, developing nurse-led clinics deemed suitable by the clinical lead, Service manager and Matron through innovation and research based change in practice.

  • Be expected to communicate with staff at all levels throughout the organisation and external agencies as well as patients, visitors and general public.
  • Require motivational, negotiating, persuasion, empathising, counselling and reassurance skills.
  • Liaise with and provide relevant information to other members of the multi disciplinary team, to ensure that patients attending the department receive high quality care.
  • Required to overcome communication barriers with patients and the general public displaying emotional crisis, vulnerability, verbal/physical aggression, learning difficulties and language barriers.
  • Ability to cope with frequently challenging, diverse and stressful situations.
  • Practice and demonstrate the ability to manage own workload as well as supervising junior colleagues

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

  • Registers Nurse with NMC or ODP or Orthoptist with the Health and Care Professions Council
  • Educational achievement to degree level or significant Ophthalmic experience
  • Intravitreal Injection qualification or significant experience.
  • ENB 998 or relevant teaching/mentorship qualification

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Substantial recent experience at Band 5 or above and evidence of ongoing professional development in Ophthalmology field of practice.
  • Evidence of use in a variety of medical diagnostic equipment within the field of Ophthalmology.
  • Understanding of NMC or HCPC, professional code and indemnity,
  • Proven experience of caring for Ophthalmology Patients
  • Excellent communication skills verbal, written and electronically
  • Evidence of awareness of the attitudes and behaviours that support the development of the new services.
  • Understanding of clinical governance and ability to establish systems in practice.
  • Extended nursing role skills e.g. IV drug administration, cannulation and Phlebotomy.
