An exciting and rare opportunity is now available for a dynamic, forward thinking and innovative pharmacist to help shape the future of Antimicrobial Stewardship in Dorset as our first ever Consultant Antimicrobial Pharmacist.

As the first of its kind we are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and experienced cancer care pharmacist who can support the trust and wider system in ensuring the best outcomes for our patients. If you are looking for the freedom and flexibility to develop a clinical leadership role this is the role for you.

Applications are encouraged from both existing consultant pharmacists & aspiring pharmacists looking to be accredited in the next 12-24 months. The post holder will be supporting in gaining RPS approval for recognition as a Consultant Pharmacist position.

Initially the post holder will be working across Dorset County Hospital and University Hospitals Dorset (50/50) to provide Antimicrobial Stewardship leadership. The aim will be that the role, once credentialed would start to support the wider system in it's strategic approach (as an 8c).

Main duties of the job

  • To provide clinical leadership to the antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) teams at DCH and UHD, and work with key stakeholders across the Dorset System to ensure a coherent AMS programme is in place across the county to maximise patient outcomes.  To be recognised as a regional and national expert in AMS, representing the Dorset System at regional and national meetings’
  •  Responsible for leading the delivery and development of a proactive, high quality, cost effective, safe and responsive pharmacy antimicrobial service.
  • To practice as an expert consultant antimicrobial pharmacist providing highly specialist evidence-based advice on the safe and effective use of antimicrobials. The post holder will contribute significantly in developing practice, knowledge, skills and roles within the Trust.
  • To lead on all aspects of antimicrobial stewardship within both Trusts and provide Pharmacy leadership across the system
  • To line manage the Pharmacy Antimicrobial Stewardship teams
  • To support the Medicines Optimisation work programme for the Medicines Committee (DCH) and Drugs & Therapeutics Group (UHD)
  • To lead and manage the pharmacy research and clinical audit programmes regarding AMS in accordance with national CQUIN and NHSE patient safety alert target.
  • To participate in the provision of the clinical pharmacy service, inpatient and outpatient dispensing services.
  • To support the review and development of PGDs

Person specification

Education & Qualification

Essential criteria
  • MPharm Degree & GPhC registration
  • Clinical Diploma
  • Non-medical Prescriber
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of RPSGB
  • Post-graduate diploma in anti-infectives

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of post-registration clinical pharmacy experience, sufficient to these levels in the clusters of the RPS Advanced Pharmacy Framework
  • Experience of developing and delivering on CIP and QIPP projects
  • Experience in supervising and managing pharmacists & pharmacy technicians and performing appraisals.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work effectively with other members of the pharmacy management team.
  • To be able to deal with conflict, especially when challenging prescribing.
  • Ability to manage change effectively.
  • Research skills
