The Mary Anning Unit

We are seeking a position of a ward clerk covering a 7 days service on The Mary Anning  Unit.  You need to be flexible and reliable to provide an efficient and effective reception  service to  patients, visitors and the wider multi-disciplinary team.

A flexible approach to a working shift pattern is required, this does not include night shifts. Your shifts will cover 7 days a week. on rotation to cover the weekend shifts.  You will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills who can work well under pressure,  using initiative & common sense.

Main duties of the job

The Mary Anning Unit  is a busy, yet friendly place to work. The department is a 45 bedded care of the older persons unit which has a high volume of admissions and discharges.

You will be responsible for taking phone calls, liaising with the nursing team and booking transport for the patients, if required. You will also be required to maintain the electronic systems including PAS, Patient tracker and Electronic Discharge summaries ( EDS)

Experience of working in a busy environment is desirable but not essential. However, the ability to be a team player and have the desire to support the team in providing an excellent service for our patients, their families, & carers, most definitely is!

Person specification

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE Level or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Level 3 NVQ in Administration or equivalent

Skills, Abilities and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Clerical experience within the last 3 years
  • Experience of working with computer systems
  • Knowledge of PAS system, booked admissions or other database system
  • Evidence of ability to communicate with all levels of staff and members of the general public
  • Evidence of ability to work on own initiative but also part of a team
  • Evidence of ability to respond to quickly changing priorities and organising and prioritising own workload to meet deadlines
  • Evidence of ability to share knowledge and skills with new members of the team and provide support on a daily basis
  • An understanding of the meaning of confidentiality and the requirement for this to be maintained

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Pervious experience within a clerical environment in a Health care setting

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
