Job overview

An exciting opportunity has become available to join the team in the new Frailty SDEC service at Dorset County Hospital.  We are expanding our acute frailty service, and the post holder will work as part of the multidisciplinary team in assessing patients who present in the Emergency Department as well as planned frailty SDEC admissions.  Frailty SDEC will be located in the Portesham Unit which has been designed to meet the needs of this client group.

The key objective of Frailty SDEC is to provide safe, effective high-quality care for our older population in Dorset.  Assessment, investigations and treatments will be provided on the same day, leading to a safe co-ordinated discharge from the department.  Liaison and networking both with staff in the Emergency Department and the local community services will be key to co-ordinating the care of our patients.

Frailty SDEC will commence as a Monday - Friday service with  plans to expand  to  a seven day service.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside Advanced Clinical Practitioners, doctors and therapists to complete a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment and treatment plan for this client group.

You will assist Frailty SDEC with administrate and secretarial services to ensure the smooth operation of the function of the Frailty same day emergency service.

Person specification

Education, Qualificatoins and Training.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE , Grade C including English and Maths
  • NVQ 3 or equivalent qualification in relevant subject

Knowledge and Experience.

Essential criteria
  • Recent previous experience within a comparable focused/healthcare environment
  • Recent previous experience of arranging meetings for others and diary management.
  • Knowledge of administration and or office procedures.
  • Previous Knowledge or experience of working in an office and customer care/health care environment, undertaking administrative duties.

Skills and abilities.

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritise effectively
  • Keyboard and typing Skills
  • Ability to use own initiative within sphere or responsibility.
  • Evidence of good communication skills, both verbal and written including minute taking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability at exercising tact and diplomacy.
