We are looking for a Principal Clinical Psychologist to work in our beautiful North East Dorset CAMHS team. You will believe- like we do- that working with whole systems and families is the most effective early interventions within mental health care.

We are transforming our child and adolescent mental health service into a Family Mental Health model that embraces and adopts the Thrive framework. We aspire to offer families a service that is built on compassion, social connection, and participation with our peers and parent peers, and a service that is understanding of the need to work in partnership with the wider network of education, social care and third sector services in order to deliver support for families based on their needs.

As a Principal Clinical Psychologist you will join our supportive and progressive psychology and psychological therapies workforce to help drive our aspirations forward and contribute to our existing supervision, training and consultation offer.

As a Principal Clinical Psychologist you will provide a specialist psychology service, directly and through supervision and training to young people/children and families/carers referred to the service.

You will communicate highly complex and sensitive information that requires empathy and reassurance in situations where there may be a highly emotive, hostile and antagonistic atmosphere with barriers to understanding. The highest communication and relationship skills are necessary to engage and maintain relationships with clients, families, carers, and other professionals where there are often significant barriers to acceptance and engagement in psychological therapy.

Our teams include a great range of professions and clinical philosophies, to include family therapy, CBT, specialist neurodevelopmental practitioners, occupational therapy and social work. We follow the Thrive model, and as such formulate and map support onto level of clinical need, not diagnostic labels. As such, the therapies we offer are diverse, to include CBT, CAT, ACT, TF-CBT, EMDR and VIG (not an exhaustive list). We believe that children and their families benefit from choice and following a formulation driven approach, we endeavour to be able to offer this.

Due to the nature of community working, having access to a car for work purposes is an essential requirement for this post.
