Job overview

This is an exciting post to support the development and delivery of the mental health care offer within Primary Care as part of our transformation of mental health services in Dorset.

The post holder will be based and embedded within the Primary Care Networks in Poole, Wimborne and Purbeck locality.   The role will entail line management of the Specialist Mental Health Practitioners based within Primary Care (ARRS Roles) as well as the Physical Health Support Workers.

You will provide clinical and operational  advice, leadership and support ensuring the needs of the service are met by exercising and demonstrating high levels of clinical judgement, critical analysis, and decision-making skills.

Your role will be community based working Mon-Fri 9-5, but flexible working will be required to meet the needs of the role and service.

This post is a permanent position. 

Travel across Poole and East Dorset. Travel will be required to meet the needs of the service.  

Main duties of the job

Responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality person centred services with a focus on integrated care which always considers people’s safety, privacy and dignity.

Day-to-day management and leadership of a clinical team and / or specialist practitioners and other staff in the multi-disciplinary team.

To act as a champion for clinical standards and for continuous improvement in the service user experience.

To ensure the delivery of up to date evidence based practice.

Contribute to the planning and design of services in line with Trust, locality and government objectives to meet the needs of local people.

The role will require working with GPs, practice nurses and other Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS) workers e.g., Mental health practitioner, social prescribers, health and wellbeing coaches, care co-ordinators, as part of the wider primary care Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), and  will also involve many other valuable services from the voluntary and community sector. You will work with primary care GPs to manage the mental health needs of their population at the point of contact. This includes those with lower-level support requirements that can be met within primary care.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered / Qualified health practitioner to degree level supplemented by minimum PG Dip (120 credits) plus working towards MA / MSc or demonstrable extensive experience in the relevant specialty
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of recent evidence based professional development in an up to date portfolio

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of National and Local transformation work.
  • Experience of working in a Band 6 role or equivalent clinical experience.
  • Experience of working in a mental health setting
  • Evidence of ability to work proactively and effectively with Primary Care and VCSE Sector
Desirable criteria
  • Active involvement in local transformation work.

Information Technology

Essential criteria
  • Experience of using electronic patient / service user record systems and other computer systems.

Managerial/supervisory

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of proactive involvement in the supervision and development of members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Desirable criteria
  • Management responsibilities in a health or social care setting.
