Job overview

The post holder is a member of catering team responsible for providing  catering services within an eating disorder service and in house coffee shop to staff, patients and visitors,  which will include preparing, cooking and serving food and beverages to standard recipes, cleaning, completion of paperwork, ordering of supplies, cash handling and provision of hospitalities.  the shift pattern will be over 7 days between the hours of 7.30 am and 6.30 pm 

Main duties of the job

An opportunity has arisen for a Relief Cook/catering assistant (permanent) within the Trust Hotel Service’s Team. This post involves shift work including late/early  between the hours of 07.30 am – 6.30 pm. This is to support the catering team in the eating disorder kitchen and coffee shops . Applicants should be highly motivated, customer focused, reliable, flexible and willing to work at short notice and have the ability to work alone and as part of a team. Experience is essential and the ability to demonstrate good culinary skills and knowledge,  cash handling and associated paperwork.

Knowledge is required in cleaning duties and use of chemicals and equipment are essential as you will be working in a demanding environment. Preparing, cooking and serving of meals in line with Hygiene Codes of Practice and legislation with particular attention to quantities (portion control), quality and the appearance of meals, assisting with maintaining the highest possible standard of hygiene and health and safety in line with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point, Assisting with menu planning

Candidates should have a good general education, and must hold a minimum of Level two Food Hygiene certificate, NVQ Level 2 in Catering and Hospitality (706/1) and have a knowledge of allergens, be willing to demonstrate commitment to undertake further training and qualifications.  You are also required to be IT literate. candidate should be able to travel independently across sites.

Hotel Services are part of the Estates and Facilities Management Directorate and are responsible for Cleaning, Catering, Laundry & Linen, Portering, Reception (main Receptions), Transport and Pest Control trust wide to provide a clean, safe, supportive environment in which patients can recuperate. 

Hotel Services is also credited with 'Hospitality Assured', a quality standard licensed by the Institute of Hospitality.  We are a customer led and service orientated team.

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 2 in Catering and Hospitality (706/1)
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate and to complete Level 3 within agreed timescale
  • Numeracy and Literacy to level 1
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Catering and Hospitality (706/2)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in use of cleaning materials and equipment
  • Experience of working within a catering service
  • Experience in general cleaning duties
  • Basic IT skills

Skills and Knowlwdge

  • Able to follow instructions and understand written and verbal communication
