Job overview

To provide cleaning and catering services as part of a team, to office, patient and communal areas within the Trust.

To interact compassionately with patients and carers at all times. Patients have a range of mental health conditions or learning disabilities.

To show commitment to and participate in quality improvement activities.

To promote at all times a positive image of people with mental health conditions and learning disabilities.  

To promote at all times a positive image of Hotel Services and the wider Trust.

Main duties of the job

We require friendly, positive thinking, organised and motivated individuals to work as a Relief Porter/Housekeeper within the Trusts Hotel Services Team.

Relief Porter/Housekeepers are responsible to provide and maintain cleaning and catering services as part of the Hotel Services team to office, patient and communal areas within the Trust. Ensuring a clean, safe and supportive environment for staff and patients working towards their recovery.

You will need to be passionate and enthusiastic about patient care putting patients at the heart of everything you do. You will be working in a multi-professional team and will need to be able to think on the spot and be empathetic. You will be passionate about our business, creating a culture of continuous improvement.

The post holder will be based at Lanchester Road  Hospital and will be required to work shifts including nightshifts (covering reception), weekends and bank holidays.

You should be highly motivated, reliable, and flexible also willing to work at short notice as there may be opportunities for extra hours.

Experience in cleaning duties and use of chemicals and equipment are essential as you will be working in a demanding environment.  Catering and food service experience would be beneficial along with a passion to providing high standards of customer service.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 (to be completed within 12 months)
  • Numeracy and Literacy to level 2 ITQ Level 2
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 2 in Portering or Housekeeping

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in use of cleaning materials and equipment
  • Experience in general cleaning duties
  • Experience of working or volunteering in a mental health or learning disabilities environment
  • Experience in portering
Desirable criteria
  • Experience cleaning in a hospital environment

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH
  • Knowledge of National Standard of Cleanliness
  • Knowledge of deep-cleaning procedures
  • Knowledge of Patient-Lead Assessment of the Care Environment (PLACE)
  • Good understanding of confidentiality
