Job overview

This is an  opportunity for you to join our team as an Activity Coordinator's working with people experiencing mental ill-health as part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team and supported by the occupational therapy service at Roseberry Park Hospital, Middlesbrough.  

You  will be responsible for planning and providing appropriate activities to meet the general therapeutic, social and recreational needs of individual service users  though a client centered approach.

This includes working with others to develop and establish a framework of activities which can be delivered across the ward both individually and within groups. This will need to be flexible and patient centred, changing regularly according to the needs of a patient cohort, and according to the interests of individuals at any given time.

You will need to be able to communicate well with a wide range of individuals, adapting your communication style according to individual need in a responsive manner.

Main duties of the job

Activity Co-ordinators are essential to the development of a critical element of therapeutic provision to service users who are following an inpatient pathway. Along with  the multi-disciplinary team, you will help develop a framework of activities which can be delivered across the ward both individually and within groups, understanding individual interest and supporting treatment plans.

You will be offer varied opportunities for training and development, with CPD needs being identified and monitored through appraisal.  Well defined and supportive supervision systems are in place via the occupational therapy team and through line management structures.

The successful candidates who do not hold the required qualifications will be expected to enrol on the Activity Coordinator Framework which will include the acquisition of the Level 3 Certificate in Activity Provision in Social Care – Distance learning, level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy or equivalent and achievement of competencies. You will have a maximum of 2 years to complete this

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Relevant level 3 or above qualification e.g. in health and/or social care, communication, teaching
  • • Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ Level 2 (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • Level 3 qualification in health and social care if not in place already

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Experience of paid, voluntary or personally of working with people with a learning disability or mental health issues
  • Experience of supporting engagement of others in activity

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Awareness of needs of service users with Mental Health conditions or learning disabilities
  • • Awareness of the needs of inidvdiuals from diverse social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds
  • • Understanding of the value and benefit of activity to mental wellbeing

Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • • Good observation skills
  • • Ability to plan and implement activities
