Job overview
The Orchards is a nine bedded recovery unit for people with longer term mental health problems. It is situated near the picturesque cathedral city of Ripon. It is only 45 minutes from Leeds and York.
We aim to help people to manage and recover from mental health problems. We will encourage service users to take part in social activities and therapeutic groups to help them to learn daily living skills.
The purpose of our service is to service users gain greater independence and follow a healthy lifestyle, in order to achieve a good quality of life within the community.
The unit has nine en-suite bedrooms. We aim to create a relaxed, homely and informal atmosphere.
The unit is staffed twenty four hours a day by nursing staff. There is always a qualified nurse on duty.
We are looking for a Band 5 nurse with an interest in recovery to work within a rehab/recovery ward.
Main duties of the job
As a service we are committed to developing the individual practitioner and the team. Currently we have had staff complete the NMP course, CBT courses. The trust runs a course on systemic family interventions. Staff are supported to complete this.
To improve the lives of people using our services by minimising the impact of their condition through the delivery of excellent services to promote recovery and wellbeing.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We will support you by offering regular supervision, training opportunities and encourage your development and role within this developing team on the delivery of Patient Centred Care, support for carers and evidence based practice. Newly qualified nurses will be offered a preceptorship package.
The successful applicant will be expected to work shifts covering 24/7 days and nights and public holidays.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Current professional registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council RNMH or RNLD
- To be recognised practice assessor / mentor or work towards in an agreed timescale
- Trained Clinical Supervisor (within 6 month probationary period)
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
Experience
Essential criteria
- Working with people with mental ill health.
- Working in a person centred therapeutic organisation
- Working in an inpatient environment
- Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers
- Working in a multi-disciplinary team
- Working in partnership with other agencies
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidenced based knowledge of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
- Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice.
- Clinical Governance and its application in practice.
Desirable criteria
- Research and development methodology.
- Awareness of psychological models of care and treatment.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers/families and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Manage own time and prioritise effectively
- Evidence of team working
- Use approved techniques in physical intervention (within agreed timescale).
Desirable criteria
- Competency in ECG and venepuncture
- Presentation Skills
