Job overview

Are you interested in a career in the field of eating disorders dietetics?  We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Registered Dietitian to join our team of dietitians working within a large specialist mental health and learning disabilities NHS Foundation Trust.  This rare and exciting post provides an opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within the Adult Eating Disorders day service  This post will involve working with service users who have been referred to intensive day treatment within the community.  The post will involve working in a small team of nutritionists, band 6 and 7 dietitians and various MDT members. The post holder will have the opportunity to participate in policy development, audit, research activities, pathway development, staff and student training. 

Main duties of the job

Candidates should be a Registered Dietitian, preferably with some experience/placement exposure of working in a mental health setting, with excellent communication and IT skills.  A working knowledge of behaviour change and motivational interviewing would be desirable.  Regular clinical supervision with the Specialist Dietitian will be provided and there will be a strong emphasis on Continued Professional Development and post-graduate training.

Note: the Job Description attached is for a Band 6 Specialist Dietitian. We can either recruit a Band 6 Specialist Dietitian or a band 5 Graduate Dietitian and support their development to Band 6 level, dependent on experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will provide a high quality, evidence based up to date nutrition and Dietetic service to adults with eating disorders currently receiving care in our intensive day service setting. The post holder will work as a key member of the multi-disciplinary team which includes dietitians, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, specialist eating disorder nursing staff, family and CBT therapists. The service also embraces a culture of service user participation.  There may be some expectation to provide Dietetic support to the broader adult eating disorder team and it is vital that the successful candidate is able to maintain key relationships with our partners in Acute Trusts and other important stakeholders. 

Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • B.Sc. (hons.) in Dietetics or post graduate diploma in Dietetics
  • Registration with HCPC
  • British Dietetic Association accredited course(s) in relevant specialist area (or willing to undertake within agreed timescale)
  • BDA Clinical Supervisory Skills course.
  • Behaviour Change Course Level 1 (or willing to undertake within an agreed timescale)
  • Certificate in Food Hygiene (or willingness to undertake within agreed timescale)
  • Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
  • Willingness to undertake the Preceptorship Programme and Competency Framework (within an agreed timescale)
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the British Dietetic Association and the Specialist Mental Health Group.
  • Completion of Behaviour Change Course (level 2 or 3).
  • Masters modules or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in Dietetics including experience working with service users in mental health or learning disabilities with complex needs.
  • Experience of supervising students on placement
  • Day to day supervision of staff
  • Experience of participation in quality improvement activities
  • Experience of participation in clinical governance activities
  • Experience of developing and delivering training
