In the summer of 2020, the Trust launched its ambitious ‘Building for our Future’ (BFF) programme. This once in a lifetime programme aims to redevelop and expand our hospitals at Eastbourne, Hastings and Bexhill, transforming the environment in which we provide care for generations to come.

Our centre for trauma services and obstetrics is at Conquest Hospital, while our centre for urology and stroke services is at Eastbourne DGH. At Bexhill Hospital we offer a range of outpatient, day surgery, rehabilitation and intermediate care services. At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

 

Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our new Dowling Retinal Suite at Bexhill Hospital. which during the next 18 months is expanding and developing new patient pathways.

You will be required to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, supporting patients undergoing Intravitreal injections as treatment for Wet Macular Degeneration, DMO & RVO patients, also diagnostic treatments to support the retinal clinics.

Treatments for these diseases are innovative and developing all the time; become part of this dynamic unit. You will be required to work alongside Consultants, Doctors and Optometrists in an outpatient setting offering a variety in ophthalmic conditions.

Ophthalmology has the plenty of opportunities for you to learn new skills and extend the role of an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Technician. This will enable you to develop yourself professionally within the team. Join us in our mission to deliver patient focused care within a modern progressive unit; to provide the continuing surgical pathway for these ophthalmic patients. Support the team in maintaining existing and developing new procedures. 

 

Main duties of the job

The OCT technician is a member of the care team who will support 
Registered Practitioners in the delivery of patient care in the 
ophthalmic outpatients setting. The role of the OCT technician will be to undertake a range of care activities and assist with patient's pathway by undertaking the Visual acuities and OCT scan.
The OCT technician will have developed or be expected to develop to 
agreed service requirements, training and competences associated 
with the expectations of a Band 3.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Maths and English GSCE or equivalent grade A-C/ 4-9
  • Educated to NVQ level 3 in relevant field or equivalent knowledge and experience
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of additional training and competency in Ophthalmology
  • Completion of Care certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working within the Ophthalmic healthcare environment Or Experience of working within an acute hospital setting
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with the OCT machine and undertaking Visual Acuities

Skills
