An exciting opportunity has arisen within the speciality medicine directorate for a band 6 nurse to become one of Acute Medicine and Endocrine Ward (C5) deputy managers’. You would be working alongside other band 6 nurses ‘, supporting the band 7 ward manager within an established nursing team.
C5 ward is a 27 bedded area which cares for both male and female patients. It is an acute Endocrine/Diabetic/acute medical ward within the newly built Louisa Martindale Building in the Royal Sussex County Hospital. This is the most modern building in the NHS at the moment.
We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.

This post would suit a dynamic individual with good leadership skills to co-ordinate the ward’s nursing team daily activities. Relevant knowledge and clinical experience in the provision of excellent patient focused, evidence-based care delivery is essential.
The opportunity would suit a mentor with excellent communication skills, who possesses substantial experience at band 5 level, preferably within an acute medical setting.
Applicants must demonstrate evidence of recent professional development and having pursued a leadership course, together with having studied a Diabetic module would be advantageous. You will be supported within your role by a ward manager, practice educator and clinical matron.

Assess patients, plan, implement and manage care.
Carry out specialist nursing procedures.
Provide specialist advice to patients and carers.

May be required to supervise a team of nursing/therapist and support staff.

- Registered General Nurse (level 1) Degree level, with significant post-registration experience (specialist or general, depending on requirements of the position)
- Experience of supervising junior staff and students, and possess or be working towards being a Practice Supervisor or Assessor Supervisor.
- Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships with the multi-disciplinary team members. Demonstrate advanced communication skills to support patients and their carers and convey sensitive information, overcoming barriers to communication.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills. Manage the conflicting demands of team leader and clinical responsibilities.
- Substantial experience in an acute medical environment.
- Involvement in carrying out clinical audit including co-ordination, evaluation and service development.
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Able to plan and prioritise a complex and unpredictable caseload efficiently.
- Proven understanding of clinical governance with risk management, its importance and its application.
- Leading meetings.
