We are seeking an experienced and motivated Band 7 Nurse to join our team as a Practice Educator in the Emergency Department. This role is pivotal in ensuring the highest standards of nursing education and professional development within our Major Trauma Centre. This role involves working as part of a large nursing workforce alongside another band 7 educator and other junior team members.

We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.

To identify and promote evidence-based nursing practice within the Emergency Department, through the implementation and facilitation of both classroom and direct clinical teaching / education. To ensure that staff are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles competently.  Lead on the orientation and competency programmes and a development programme for nurses new to their clinical areas, incorporating theoretical teaching, clinical skills assessment & formulation of personal development plans.  Facilitate the professional development and education of all members of staff in a positive learning environment.  The post holder works closely with the lecturers for the Emergency Care and AMU pathway courses at the University of Brighton, ensuring links between theory and practice are securely comprehended and implemented.  As lead specialist for education in acute & emergency care, provide specialist advice and guidance to other personnel, undertake audit & implements research, develop professional policies, standards & best practice guidelines.  The role also involves representing the Trust at local and regional levels. The post holder works without direct supervision

To establish and maintain effective communications with all members of the public, including challenging behaviour, aggressive behaviour, learning disability, mental illness, extremely emotive/sensitive patients, intoxicated, paediatrics of all ages and bereavement.
Communicate effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to encourage learning and improvement and to ensure adoption of evidence-based practice and facilitate the delivery of high-quality care.
On a daily basis to adapt high levels of interpersonal and communication skills to multiple and/or simultaneous situations.
On a daily basis to communicate professionally and effectively in a hostile, 
antagonistic or highly emotive atmosphere/environment.
To be expected to communicate undesirable, sensitive and often difficult 
information to patients, carers, other staff, the general public and trust personnel including traumatic debrief, adult death, infant death, the need to allocate a patient as “not for resuscitation” status with relatives and fetal loss, and harvesting of tissues, bone, cornea and heart valves.
To lead on communication for the department on a shift-to-shift basis across a multi-disciplinary team, undertaking a key role with external agencies on a daily basis.
To ensure all communication is timely, accurate, honest, effective and is 
managed with discretion
