Job overview

Working pattern:

Whole time equivalent and flexible working to 0.6 WTE (gastroenterology only) will be considered. As a flexible employer part time working is supported where we can however, cover must be provided on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Banding:

Band 5, but we will consider appointing a band 4 on a band 4 to 5 progression scheme as we are happy to provide and support this training.

The Directorate of Abdominal Surgery and Medicine is developing their services towards a high quality teaching centre for gastroenterology and we are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative pharmacy technician to join the pharmacy team. The current pharmacy gastroenterology service was shortlisted for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Clinical Care award  and is building international expertise in pharmacy-led medicines optimisation involving a multidisciplinary team approach and work shared via international conferences.

The post is based at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath and/or Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where the gastroenterology team provides acute and elective services looking after gastrointestinal surgical and medical patients including a developing tertiary hepatology and IBD service. We provide a comprehensive medicines management service with strong technical support as part of the team.

Main duties of the job

The overarching function of the role is to improve the safe and efficient monitoring of complex medications and supply of medicines to gastroenterology patients (ie via shared care). This is done via organising and managing the gastroenterology drug monitoring service, managing the database, contributing to all aspects of clinical governance within the directorate as delegated by the team; all this will lead to driving our service forward. This is to be done by efficient and appropriate communication with the IBD team, clinical pharmacists and with other members of the pharmacy and multidisciplinary team plus patients to facilitate seamless care for patients.

You will be assigned a practice supervisor, and your development will be supported using our internal appraisal system with your designated supervisor.

You will be included in the dispensary rota (on week and weekend days).

For those appointed full-time, the more general duties are done either at PRH & RSCH, and potential ward rotations may include Acute and General Medicine, Care of the Elderly, Trauma surgery, ENT surgery, Digestive Diseases, Vascular, Stroke, Respiratory, Women's and Children's health. For each area you will be assigned a practice supervisor, and your development will be supported using our internal appraisal system with your designated supervisor.
