On the 1st December Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT) and Here will be embarking on a new and exciting partnership to deliver high quality MSK care across Brighton & Hove and West Sussex.
Under the banner of MSK Health, SCFT and Here have committed to an ambitious programme of service improvement, expanding on what is working well already, and implementing new innovative ways of working to better serve our local populations.
To lead the clinical development and delivery of the programme we are seeking a Clinical Director to complete the leadership triumvirate with the Planned Care Divisional Director of Operations and MSK Health Partnership Director.
The successful applicant will need to have extensive experience clinically and in a leadership role within MSK services. They will be expected to lead on the strategic planning and delivery of the clinical strategy for the service, whilst holding joint accountability within the triumvirate for all elements of MSK Health.
As this is a new role there is an opportunity for applicants to join the team on a developmental arrangement, where they will be required to work towards the full role within an agreed timeframe.
This is an internal process for outgoing MSK providers in Brighton & Hove and/or West Sussex. Applicants must currently be employed by Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust, Here or University Hospitals Sussex.
Main duties of the job
The role of the MSK Health Clinical Director is to provide strong, visible, professional leadership and focus for the delivery of excellent quality of care and outcomes through the development of Clinicians whilst effectively managing people, financial and physical resources within the division relating to patient care.
This is a senior clinical leadership role in which the post holder will be responsible for the strategic direction and overall provision of the management of all clinical posts and the safety, quality, experience and effectiveness of all clinical services across a large portfolio. The post holder will ensure performance is managed effectively and that there is robust governance across all the functions in line with available resources and seek to continuously innovate and improve clinical outcomes, efficiency, and accessibility to MSK Health.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The role assumes responsibility for:
· Leading, co-ordinating and ensuring excellent clinical standards and a patient-centred approach is delivered equitably across our population.
· Clinical Leadership and co-ordination of the whole MSK System pathways across all providers and stakeholders in MSK Health and wider provider alliance.
· Ensuring the voice of the patient and lived experience is heard and this can be demonstrated in improvement work and service priorities.
· Ensuring patient outcomes are maximised through the development and implementation of the latest evidence-based care pathways and the reduction of unwarranted clinical variation.
· Ensure safe staffing is delivered and lead the recruitment and retention within clinical services you are responsible for.
· Create, with the MSK Health Partnership Director, an open and learning focused safety culture across MSK Health.
· Ensure standards in relation to infection prevention and control and safeguarding are maintained.
· Ensure continuous improvement, professional and leadership development and research are a core component to the clinical services you are responsible for.

Essential criteria
- Educated to doctorate level or equivalent qualification or significant equivalent level of knowledge acquired through experience
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Experience of working within a complex organisational environment
- A good understanding of the changing NHS environment.
- Significant experience of clinical MSK operations, including the management of Human and Financial Resources
- Significant experience of delivering specialist clinical care within MSK services.
- Significant experience of monitoring, analysing, and assessing clinical operational performance across complex services. Including the drafting, implementation, and monitoring of remedial action plans
- Registered Allied Health Professional
Skills
Essential criteria
- Be able to articulate the evolving vision for the future of clinical profession and demonstrate opportunities this can bring to the MSK Health partnership and the host Trusts.
- To have a clear understanding of relevant workforce, education, practice standards and research issues within the NHS to be able to set and lead the AHP and clinical agenda.
- Knowledge of multidisciplinary team working and an understanding of differing professional roles boundaries
- Ability to identify, assess and manage complex clinical and operational risks
