Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic pharmacist to lead on the implementation and maintenance of the EPMA systems used across the trust. They will require: A genuine interest in IT systems; proven experience of delivering projects; experience of delivering training to individuals and groups; a strong clinical background; experience of other IT prescribing systems would be an advantage.

You will contribute to all aspects of clinical governance, including clinical risk and audit. As a teaching hospital, education and training is an integral component of all roles encompassing practice supervision of undergraduates, pre-registration pharmacists and the line management and educational supervision of pharmacists. We encourage inter-professional learning and have been recognised for educational initiatives such as joint teaching activities with Foundation Doctors.

This permanent role will work closely with clinical leads across all specialties, IT and external vendors to ensure digital management of medicines is at a gold standard level.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a motivated  pharmacist who has a passion for digital transformation to lead on the implementation and maintenance of the trust electronic prescribing systems. 

As part of this team the post holder work with a variety of key stakeholders ranging from clinical staff to members of the IT team to ensure maximise the effectiveness of the trust EPMA systems.  

As a senior member of the pharmacy department, the post holder will work with clinical leads to utilise digital systems and improve the provision of clinical pharmacy services across the trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To lead on the implementation of the digital medicines project, alongside the Lead Pharmacist - Clinical Informatics
  • Responsible for managing and leading the Digital Medicines teams
  • To work closely with the stakeholders to ensure that electronic prescribing solutions deliver the strategic and operational goals of the Trust, which include patient safety, patient experience, quality of care, efficient use of staff resources, and cost effective prescribing
  • To act as link for pharmacy with IT, medical and nursing teams, to translate clinical needs in to EPMA requirements
  • To act as a role model or practicing pharmacists to ensure that digital medicines activities are in context of contemporary clinical work
  • To form part of the senior pharmacy management team managing service provision and development
  • To deploy and develop EPMA process change
  • To provide expert advice on pharmaceutical matters related to EPMA systems, undertaking risk management and ensuring compliance with national medicines legislation as well as relevant local policies

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MPharm Degree
  • Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC
  • Post-graduate diploma (or equivalent)
  • Demonstratale post-registration experience in hospital pharmacy
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant IT experience
  • Relevant management experience

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of medicines safety and managing risk
  • Experience of IT system development/administration
  • Experience of working in a range of clinical pharmacy specialties
  • Experience of working successfully with different healthcare professions and managers across the wider healthcare economy
  • Experience of effective change management
