In the summer of 2020, the Trust launched its ambitious ‘Building for our Future’ (BFF) programme. This once in a lifetime programme aims to redevelop and expand our hospitals at Eastbourne, Hastings and Bexhill, transforming the environment in which we provide care for generations to come.

Our centre for trauma services and obstetrics is at Conquest Hospital, while our centre for urology and stroke services is at Eastbourne DGH. At Bexhill Hospital we offer a range of outpatient, day surgery, rehabilitation and intermediate care services. At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

Main duties of the job

To be an experienced physiotherapist responsible for providing assessment treatment, re-evaluation,  advice and equipment for patients, carers and other professionals within each rotation.

To work as an autonomous professional according to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) “Rules of Professional conduct” and “Standards of Physiotherapy” and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) regulations, working without the need for direct supervision, access to advice and support from a more senior physiotherapist is available if required, but work is not routinely evaluated.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To be an experienced physiotherapist responsible for providing assessment, treatment, re-evaluation,  advice and equipment for patients, carers and other professionals within each rotation

 To work flexibly in line with shift patterns and service needs as required. To participate within the evening and weekend on-call physiotherapy service.

 Voluntary participation within other out of hours physiotherapy services e.g. orthopaedics, hydrotherapy.

 To work collaboratively with all healthcare professionals within each rotation to ensure a seamless, co-ordinated service that meets the individual patient need. 

To supervise, educate and be involved in the appraisal of junior physiotherapists, student physiotherapists, technical instructors and physiotherapy assistants within each rotation

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Diploma / degree in physiotherapy Current registrant as required by HPC
  • Post-graduate qualification or proven equivalent experience / training in a relevant field
  • Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate qualifications in a relevant topic
  • Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Full range of undergraduate placements
  • 2 years post graduate experience within an acute hospital environment
  • Completion of core rotations (must include orthopaedics, MSK, neurology and respiratory)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience as a band 6 physiotherapist
  • Experience within acute neurological rehabilitation services

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Confident with core physiotherapy skills
  • Will have the ability to carry out physiotherapy assessment and intervention incorporating manual physiotherapy techniques, therapeutic handling and safe use of equipment, using the skills of highly developed dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory senses
