We're excited to announce we are recruiting for Talking Therapies - accredited PWPs to join our team at West Sussex Talking Therapies and help us continue to build on our success, working with a range of adults with anxiety, depression and trauma-related problems in a primary care setting. These vacancies are within our North locality (bases in Burgess Hill, Crawley and Horsham).

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service.

Assess and support people with a common mental health problem in the self-management of their recovery.

Undertake patient-centred interviews which identify areas where the person wishes to see change and/or recovery and make an accurate assessment of risk to self and others.

Provide a range of information and support for evidence-based, high volume, low-intensity psychological treatments. This may include guided self-help, computerised CBT, and information about pharmacological treatments. This work may be face-to-face, telephone or via other media.

Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols.

We provide our patients with a service between Monday-Friday 8am and 8pm.

With our blended working model work, successful candidates can expect a mixture of home working and working on site in one of our bases or sites in the community. Our interventions are offered digitally as well as face-to-face, offering our patient’s choice. We retain and build on innovations that have helped maximise staff wellbeing. You will be provided with a laptop and mobile phone.

Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the department’s referral protocols. Refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary or step-up the person’s treatment to high intensity therapy.

Develop treatment plans, tailoring them to meet the specific and individual needs of each patient.

Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.

Assess and manage risk of patient’s intent to harm self or others in line with Service and Trust protocols.

Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service.

Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process.

Ensure that client confidentiality is protected at all times in line with Service and Trust protocols and policies.

Be aware of and keep up to date with advances in the spheres of treatment for common mental health problems.

Attend Case Supervision/Reflective Practice Supervision on a regular basis as agreed with Locality Manager and Clinical Lead.

Contribute to the development of best practice within the service.

  • Evidence of working with people who have experienced a mental health problem.
  • Experience of team working.

  • Experience of black and minority ethnic communities and/or the hard to reach communities (e.g. hearing-impaired, asylum seekers and homeless).
  • Experience of working with people with long term health conditions.
  • Experience of running psycho educational courses.

  • Able to write clear reports and letters.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent telephone skills with the ability to type information being gained in real time.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with high volumes of patients who may be distressed.
  • Ability to develop appropriate therapeutic relationships by phone/video/face-to-face and in small group settings.
  • Ability to present information to groups of professionals and/or patients.
  • Is computer literate and experienced at using MS Office, Internet.
  • Has used IAPTus or equivalent patient computerised health record system.
  • Ability to use clinical supervision and personal development positively and effectively.
  • Ability to be self-reflective whilst working with service users in own personal and professional development and in supervision. Has effective self-care strategies.
  • Ability to evaluate and put in place the effect of training.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and practical application of stepped care approach and Improving Access to Psychological Therapies.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health.
  • Knowledge of medication routinely used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to the post.
  • Have knowledge of and be committed to the concept of recovery and mental resilience.
