Our centre for trauma services and obstetrics is at Conquest Hospital, while our centre for urology and stroke services is at Eastbourne DGH. At Bexhill Hospital we offer a range of outpatient, day surgery, rehabilitation and intermediate care services. At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.
In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

East Sussex Speech and Language Therapy service is an integrated community and acute trust and is one of the largest in the UK. There will be an opportunity to participate in H&N virtual MDTs. You will be maximising digital opportunities and collaborations with our neighbouring Trusts. We are at an exciting point in developing our rehabilitation tool bag and have received a large investment in funding for IOPI and Expiratory Muscle Strength Training (EMST) and have established close working relations with ATOS and Severn for our laryngectomy patients who provide regular and flexible training opportunities.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic therapist, who has completed their NQP competencies and possibly their post basic dysphagia training, who is looking for their next post to specialise in H&N and ENT. In East Sussex we can offer you the opportunity to work alongside highly specialist SLTs and SLT assistants to gain the experience and skills you will need to work at a specialist level. You will also have the opportunity to work alongside highly specialist clinicians in acute care, voice, head and neck cancer, stroke, critical care and neurological degenerative conditions to further develop your knowledge and skills.

Your job plan will allow you time to focus on you development and work with your colleagues on service improvements. We are proactive in research and service development and staff are encouraged to attend postgraduate courses/ RCSLT CENs. There is also a comprehensive in-service education programme within the department with monthly clinical forums and the wider therapy Services. We have close links with the local School of Healthcare Professions at the University of Brighton and other universities. We are proactively seeking opportunities to develop advanced practitioner roles, challenging traditional models of service delivery to create new and exciting roles.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Available as a B6 post or a B6 development post. If you are applying as a development post it will commence on a B6 Annex U. Therefore you will be paid 70% of entry point on a B6 & when competencies achieved you will move to entry point on B6 scale.
A Band 6 development post will be considered for the right candidate.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
- Health Care Professions Council – Licence to Practice
- Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Completion of specialist short courses in communication disorders/AAC
- Dysphagia trained, meeting the specialist RCSLT dysphagia competency framework to work independently

- Good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically
- Ability to move between locations in a cost effective and timely manner
