At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

 

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Clinical Trials & Cancer Services Pharmacist to join the Cancer and Aseptic Services team at ESHT. The successful candidate will lead on a portfolio of cancer & non-cancer clinical trials undertaken within ESHT. They will appraise all relevant clinical trials & offer pharmaceutical input in accordance with legal requirements & Good Clinical Practice (GCP) relating to the prescribing, handling, dispensing, administration, storage & disposal of investigational medicinal products (IMPs) & non-investigational medicinal products (NIMPs).

They will also contribute to the delivery of a high quality specialist clinical pharmacy service to cancer clinical services.

Experience in Cancer &/or Aseptic Services is essential. They will not only have the opportunity to explore & enhance their clinical expertise, but will also be developing management, training & leadership skills. They will be supported by an experienced & skilled team of pharmacists, technicians & assistants. 

This post also holds an education & training element, which in the past has proven successful in developing staff as a result of the skills acquired in people management & personnel development. This has led to previous post-holders gaining promotion to lead or management positions.

We have a successful track record of delivering higher level training & if not already obtained, applicants will be encouraged to complete their Independent Prescribing studies.

Main duties of the job

1. Takes responsibility for the provision, management and development of a high quality, comprehensive specialist clinical trials pharmacy service. 

2. To develop, implement and monitor a strategy for the Pharmaceutical Clinical Trials service within the Pharmacy Directorate.

3. To be the lead pharmacy contact for clinicians carrying out pharmaceutically based clinical trials and to provide leadership and expert advice in relation to clinical trials to all pharmacy staff working within East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust

4. To assist potential investigators in clinical trial design, to advise them on good practice in accordance with the International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) guidelines on Good Clinical practice and Good Manufacturing Practice and on the regulatory status of the clinical trial drug.

5. To lead and finalise the set-up of cancer clinical trials, i.e. writing and/or checking dispensing procedure, trials specific Chemocare prescriptions and worksheets.

6. To provide a specialised haematology and oncology clinical pharmacy service to inpatient, outpatient and day-case patients, carers, specialist medical and nursing staff, and other relevant HCPs providing services to cancer patients.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) or equivalent recognised qualification
  • GPhC registration
  • A minimum of 2 years experience of working as a specialist pharmacist
  • CPD portfolio that demonstrates an ongoing commitment to personal development
  • Diploma / Msc in Clinical Pharmacy or pharmacy practice or other equivalent post-graduate qualification (2 years post-graduate training above original Masters level qualification)
  • Vocational Masters degree in Pharmacy (4yrs) and 1 years pre-registration training and experience)
  • GMP accredited
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist qualification in cancer therapy or equivalent knowledge
  • Qualified Independent Prescriber or willing to undertake training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial post registration experience in a specialist post within Cancer and or Aseptic Services
  • Experience in utilising information technology within the workplace including inputting, retrieving information and producing reports
  • Experience in managing the pharmaceutical element of clinical trials.
Desirable criteria
  • Has experience in policy, procedure development.
  • Previous experience in mentoring and training pharmacy staff
  • Has previous Line management experience
