In the summer of 2020, the Trust launched its ambitious ‘Building for our Future’ (BFF) programme. This once in a lifetime programme aims to redevelop and expand our hospitals at Eastbourne, Hastings and Bexhill, transforming the environment in which we provide care for generations to come.

Our centre for trauma services and obstetrics is at Conquest Hospital, while our centre for urology and stroke services is at Eastbourne DGH. At Bexhill Hospital we offer a range of outpatient, day surgery, rehabilitation and intermediate care services. At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

This is a new exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Support worker, to work alongside and with other support workers within the Community Health and Integrated Care division (CHIC) 

The main focus is to ensure that all support workers are supported and offered development opportunity.  Within CHIC division we are investing in our occupational therapy and physiotherapy teams  in acute services, and also our HomeFirst workforce in our community team, employing a larger number of support workforce alongside our registered workforce.  These changes will ensure that we will  improve patient pathways of care from acute to our community services.   

This role is essential to ensure that our support workers are offered opportunity to develop and be able to fulfil their role.  You will  be key in their development and also ensure that this is embedded in practise moving forward.

Main job purposes  

The post holder will move forward key objectives for support workforce as part of delivery of the ESHT 5 year AHP strategy

Work with AHP services within CHIC division to identify learning needs of the support workforce, identify learning opportunity and where this is not available or gaps identified  set this in place and to ensure that these staff are able to develop in their roles.

Work with the AHP services and represent ESHT in ICB meetings to further develop a clear understanding of the AHP Support Workforce across the organisations and system through appropriate mapping work and key objectives to move this plan forward. This will ultimately help to:

·        Improve education standards, access and uptake for AHP support workers

·        Grow the AHP support workforce alongside the registered workforce

·        Support training and development for all AHP support workers within CHIC division

·        Improve retention of the AHP support workforce and reduce vacancies

·        Services can address the current variation in support worker roles, banding and progression

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The post holder will lead on a programme of work to develop the support worker role across the Trust’s AHP professions.

Identify areas for skills development, extension of scope and capability and sharing of good practice to inform inter-disciplinary learning and development provision in Trust.

Identify and contribute to the development  and delivery of multi-professional learning environments and opportunities.

Contribute to the development  and delivery of a career pathway for unregistered staff with associated learning, education and experiential requirements.

Work in collaboration with the unregistered workforce, AHP leads, clinical leads and other MDT colleagues to ensure engagement at all levels and provide opportunities for frequent networking and recognition within that staff group.

Qualifications

  • Educated to A Level or equivalent
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent level of knowledge and skills
  • IT qualification or evidence of equivalent training / skill

  • NHS Management or Leadership Training
  • Management qualification (diploma / NVQ4) or proven equivalent training and experience

Experience

  • Extensive NHS experience in clinical areas of relevance to post
  • Significant clinical experience at support worker level supervising other team members
  • Experience of using a number of computer software systems

  • Involvement in student education training

Skills
