At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

 

Job overview

We are looking to recruit a motivated & innovative Dietitian to join us as Acute Clinical Lead Dietitian for both acute sites, the successful post holder will be based at Conquest Hospital.

You will be the clinical lead to support the development, implementation & evaluation of a high quality  acute nutrition service across both acute sites. Your main clinical focus will be to support the dietetic care of surgical and ICU patients.  

Our team consists of Trainee ACP Dietitians, Dietitians, Dietetic Apprentices, Dietetic Assistants & Administrators based at:

  • Avenue House, Eastbourne
  • Conquest Hospital, Hastings
  • Bexhill Irvine Unit, Bexhill Health Centre & Bexhill Hospital, Bexhill
  • Eastbourne District General Hospital

Main duties of the job

As clinical lead you will be responsible for the specialist nutrition & dietetic management in patients referred for nutritional advice in acute hospitals (including oral nutrition support, enteral & parenteral nutrition support, assessment & treatment). You will be responsible for planning & prioritising of own clinical caseload, including all adult inpatients, critical care wards &  any other comorbidities as directed by Head of Service.

Part of the role is to develop, implement & monitor training to patients & professionals within the dietetics pathway in conjunction with other clinical & team lead Dietitians. 

The role involves supporting line management of acute roles & to develop service improvement projects jointly with other clinical & team leads.

In order to develop, implement & evaluate a seamless nutrition service across the surgical & ICU pathways from acute to community, you will identify & undertake regular audit of services provided; participating in research as identified. You will work at continuously improving standards of patient care & promote wider multi-disciplinary team working alongside relevant MDT members, along with the Service/Professional Lead for Dietetics.

This role  includes being a core member of the complex nutrition MDM and jointly leading regular nutrition ward rounds.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 4 Year degree in Dietetics or equivalent
  • Current state registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
  • Evidence of continued professional development to Masters level or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate training in behavioural change techniques

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience in general dietetic practice and time in specialist Surgery dietetic practice.
  • Experience of enteral nutrition and parenteral nutrition.
  • Undertaking new patient assessment and treatment
  • Conducting patient and other health professional group education
  • Training of Student Dietitians Computer aided dietary assessment
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of assessing and treating critical care patients.
