Job overview

Due to a secondment opportunity, the Children’s Speech and Language Therapy team in Central  are looking for  therapist to cover 0.6wte in Horsham Nursery Specialist Support Centre, an SSC attached to a Nursery which has  16 places for preschool children requiring dynamic assessment of their needs before going into school.  Typically these children will be demonstrating  social communication difficulties and or Developmental Speech/Language Disorder, they are all likely to need an Education Health Care Needs Assessment before starting school.

The SLT will work closely with setting staff and the Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, who supports for half a day a week. There is support for the SLT from Band 7s Leads in SSCs, EYS, Deafness and our Neurodevelopmental Pathway. The Seconded SLT will still be working in the wider team and is happy to be available for questions or advice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a therapist with two or three years’ experience you will be keen to work further develop your skills in your chosen specialist area. You will work as part of a well supported team but and be able to contribute your well developed skills to the efficient and safe running of your part of the service. You will be able to support students, Speech and Language Therapy Assistants and NQTs/Band 5s and demonstrate resilience and early Leadership skills. You will actively seek opportunities to further your knowledge and skills.

Assess children; Advise families and settings; Provide Therapy - individual; group; direct/indirect; remote/face to face; Train others; Write Reports and Intervention Plans; Use outcome measures; Contribute data.

Attend and contribute to Team and Locality Meetings

Access, and provide, supervision

Attend training and disseminate information

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Qualification/MRCSL
  • HCPC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of RCSLT

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of independently managing a clinical caseload
  • Working in partnership with parents, teachers and other carers/support workers
  • Experience of working within a relevant specialist area and developing specialist packages of care.
  • Inter-agency planning, consultation and working
  • Experience of a range of caseload management and prioritisation systems

Skills and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent interpersonal skills/oral & written communication
  • Competent IT skills
  • Well established knowledge of assessment tools relevant to client group
  • Well established knowledge of a range of therapeutic interventions relevant to client group.
