Job overview

The successful candidate will work with all staff, across both community hospital and community-based settings, to deliver safeguarding adults’ complex case work. They will have excellent verbal, written communication and analytical skills to lead on monitoring and evaluating the quality and effectiveness of training, data collation, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders. They will carry out training on topics relevant to the safeguarding adults’ agenda including the Mental Capacity Act (2005), Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (2007), Care Act (2014) and Prevent (2015). In addition, they will also possess excellent skills to support the detailed analysis of adult safeguarding concerns, information gathering, and writing health enquiry reports. Have the ability to demonstrate a good understanding of roles and responsibilities within the health and social care environment is paramount, and when required they will participate in joint working with key stakeholders such as patients/clients using services and statutory and voluntary organisations within the area.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will advise SCFT staff on their statutory and legislative duties for all aspects of Adult Safeguarding as stipulated in primary legislation, government strategy, national, regional, and local guidance. Offering highly specialist advice, support and mentorship to service leads on prevention, concerns and Enquiries, promoting a positive quality culture in which continuous improvement in clinical care is sought and achieved.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will ensure best practice for all SCFT staff by providing expert advice and support including practice development, education, and training, and supporting SCFT staff involved within Enquiry work.

Qualifications and/or professional registration

Essential criteria
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent experience
  • Registered Nurse (1st level) (Adult, Mental health or Learning Disabilities)
  • Completed specific post-registration training in Safeguarding Adults
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • ENB 998 or equivalent teaching qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post registration experience of safeguarding adults casework working within the community.
  • Experience of partnership working within Health Trusts and other agencies
  • Experience of planning and delivering a variety of teaching to single and multi-agency audiences.
  • Experience of contributing to Safeguarding Adults Reviews
  • Development of clinical policies and guidelines
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of undertaking audit.
  • Experience or interest in research.
  • Evidence of supporting staff in adult safeguarding supervision.
  • Experience of supporting staff with legal proceedings.

Skills and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively at all levels with staff within SCFT and other partner organisations.

  • Ability to develop appropriate networks within health and with other agencies.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of national and local adult safeguarding guidance, policies and procedures.(including detailed knowledge of Mental Capacity Act (2005) DoLS (2007) Care Act (2014)
  • Knowledge and understanding of multi-disciplinary, inter-professional practice to include primary care and adult social services.
  • Understanding of role in Clinical Governance.
  • Knowledge of evidence based practice in relation to safeguarding adults, including those with learning disabilities.
  • Able to drive regularly throughout the day to locations across the Trust.
  • Able to use VDU for long periods throughout the day.
  • Facilitation skills to lead change within clinical practice, processes and organisations.
  • Able to think and act strategically and escalate concerns.
  • Ability to formulate policies, procedures and practice guidance.
  • Ability to multitask.

  • Full driving licence.
  • Ability to be flexible and may on occasions need to work unsocial hours.
  • A level of personal and professional resilience to recognise the impact the safeguarding role can have on an individual regarding the content of some of the work associated with the role.
