The Community Neurological Service (CNRS) based in Newhaven and covering the High Weald, Lewes and Havens area of East Sussex is seeking to employ an Occupational Therapist with an interest and experience in Neurological Rehabilitation. You will be working with clients who have had a Stroke, Traumatic Brian Injury (TBI) or Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), delivering rehab in their own home .
CNRS is a friendly and welcoming multidisciplinary team comprising of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Nurses, Neuro-Psychologist, and Rehabilitation Support Workers.
We are looking for an occupational therapist with:
Experience of working as a Band 5 or above in a neurological and/ or community setting for at least 12 months
· Previous experience of treating neurological conditions
· Enthusiasm and interest in neuro-rehabilitation
· An ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
As this is a community post it is essential that you can travel independently to see patients across the patch so you will require a full driving licence and car.
We have a permanent 1.0 WTE ( part time applicants will be considered ) and 0.8 WTE 1 year fixed term position available.
Main duties of the job

· To contribute to the provision of an efficient and effective therapy service within High Weald, Lewes and Havens

· To assess, treat and evaluate a specific caseload of neurological patients who may have complex or chronic problems

· To maintain own records and work as an autonomous practitioner

· To take responsibility for supervision and teaching of junior staff, support workers and students

· To assist with the planning, co-ordination, delivery and evaluation of the Therapy Service

To work alongside the other Therapy and Nursing staff in planning a multi-disciplinary approach to care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work as a band 6 registered professional within the Community Neurological Rehabilitation Service HWLH.
-
To manage a caseload of patients with a stroke, ABI or TBI.
-
To formulate and deliver a generic and specialised treatment programme based on a sound knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment and reasoning skills.

To treat all patients with respect and courtesy, maintaining dignity and respecting individual needs and differences, both physical and cultural.

To be involved in the support and supervision of staff at Band 2 to 5 level.

To act as a clinical educator for undergraduate students within own professional area.

To receive and deliver internal training and keep your own Personal Development plans up to date.

To assist the team with service development and initiatives.
Full time or part time hours would be considered.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Professional qualification such as degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
- Current Registration with HCPC as an OT
- Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
- Training in Student Education
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working as a Band 5 or above in a neurological and/ or community setting for at least 12-months
- Broad range of experience in community and acute settings
- Experience of multidisciplinary working
Desirable criteria
- Experience of supervision junior staff, assistants and students
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Broad base of general and neurological clinical knowledge.
- Knowledge of basic and complex equipment used to facilitate independence.
- Advanced Manual Handing skills.
- Ability to use and analyse standardised assessments within the Neurological specialism
- Good use of evidence based practice/ best practice.
- Demonstrate leadership in practice.
- Knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to Neuro specialism
- Ability to delegate work to others
Desirable criteria
- Supervision and appraisal of junior staff / students
- Experience of undertaking Audit
Other
Essential criteria
- Ability to drive and car ownership
