Our centre for trauma services and obstetrics is at Conquest Hospital, while our centre for urology and stroke services is at Eastbourne DGH. At Bexhill Hospital we offer a range of outpatient, day surgery, rehabilitation and intermediate care services. At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

 

Job overview

To provide a high profile, high quality service to meet the expectations/needs of the customer.  Providing a high level of social skills and a positive approach to customer care.

To ensure the well being of all patients/visitors and others.  To maintain the appearance of all areas of the hospital by ensuring all waste areas are free from laundry, furniture and miscellaneous items.

To liaise and co-operate with all departments to ensure a high level of service is given.

Main duties of the job

Escort patients to and from various locations within Sussex Premier Health and the Conquest Hospital.

Collection of clean/dirty linen.

To be aware at all times of the security and fire policies in the hospital.

To provide a high profile professional image when dealing with all departments in the Conquest.

Observance of Health & Safety/COSHH/Fire Regulations and policies.

To ensure correct bagging and disposal of clinical waste.

To report any maintenance defects as soon as possible.

Handle any small maintenance repairs required within the hospital.

To transport deceased to the Conquest Mortuary when required.

To deliver papers, mail and flowers to the ward when necessary.

To assist when necessary with urgent paperwork to and from the ward, bookings, reception, and other departments.

To cover for other porters during breaks, lunch etc to ensure the hospital has a porter on duty at all times for admission, clearing of floors etc.

To ensure that the hospital grounds, entrance and refuse areas are kept clean and tidy.

To provide cover for reception where necessary

Secure main entrance and ensure hospital is secure by closing windows and locking unused doors.

To maintain correct stock levels of oxygen and nitrous oxide.

To attend emergencies, ie cardiac arrest.  To collect the cardiac arrest trolley and stay nearby in case needed.

To move beds, chairs etc to and from floors as required and to replace in the correct store when no longer needed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To be vigilant at all times, as to the Health & Safety of all patients and employees within the hospital, especially with regards to the Fire Regulations and Codes of Safety.  To be continually aware of security in and around the hospital, ie unknown persons within the hospital, suspicious circumstances etc.

To be aware of you’re reporting procedure and structure of departments.

To always carry and respond to your pager.  To adhere to the weekly rota and to request all holidays through the correct procedure.
