Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our well established Coronary Care Unit team on Courtlands Ward for a period of 10 months (with the potential to extend), due to maternity leave cover.
The ward is a busy, dynamic 17 bedded unit caring for a patients with a wide range of cardiology conditions such as patients with heart failure, ischaemic heart disease, myocardial infarction, valve disease, endocarditis, pacing and arrhythmia management.

Please note that if you currently work for another NHS Trust or UHSussex and you are applying to accept this position as a secondment opportunity, before applying you must seek agreement and authorisation from your current Trust/Manager. Secondments can’t be agreed without this approval. If you are unable to gain approval you should refrain from applying unless you wish to take this role as a fixed term position.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Provide high quality evidence based clinical care to a cohort of cardiology patients, in line with the Trust values and in accordance with professional regulations.
- Work with others to protect and promote the health and wellbeing of those in your care, their families and carers, and the wider community.
- To work in line with Trust policies, objectives, protocols and local guidelines
- To act as a role model communicating in line with Trust values, to patients, carers and the staff at all times.
- Accept delegated responsibility for specific activities/areas from the senior nurse in charge, recognising and working within the limits of your competence.
- Take every opportunity to continue to maintain and develop your own practice.
- Facilitate students and others to develop their competence through supervision, teaching and role modelling.
