Job overview

Here at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust we  are looking for an experienced and dedicated team leader to line manage our newly established Telephone Triage Team.

Telephone Triage is a designated telephone advice and triage line available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week providing advice and guidance to pregnant and postnatal women under the care of Royal Susses County Hospital Brighton, Princess Royal Hospital Haywards Heath, St Richards Hospital Chichester and Worthing Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead the telephone triage team based at Worthing Hospital

Those undertaking the role will be part of the telephone triage team and will provide call handling for all women who are booked to deliver at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Princess Royal Hospital Haywards Heath, Worthing Hospital and St Richards Hospital Chichester. During the antenatal and post-natal periods. 

You will be signposting and providing advice to women ensuring they are referred to the most appropriate place according to their clinical care needs.  

As line manager you will have oversight of the team and also undertake clinical shifts for telephone triage.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To act as an expert clinical Lead for Maternity Telephone Triage, providing professional advice to other midwives within these settings, to deliver high quality, modern, women and family centred services.

 

The post holder will be required to ensure the smooth daily running of Maternity Telephone Triage. Encompassing National Agendas, to lead by example and provide clinical supervision.

 

The post holder will have management responsibility for the efficient running of the Maternity Telephone Triage department at Worthing Hospital. The post holder will be an expert in the assessment of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care.

 

They will take overall responsibility for developing specialised programmes of care for women calling into Maternity Telephone Triage, working closely with other health professionals to ensure individual packages of care are created to maximise best practice. The post holder will be included on the Manager On-Call rota to support operational management 24/7.

  • Mentorship or equivalent
  • Evidence of a range of excellent communication skills
  • Able to use range of IT systems

  • Previous experience of telephone traige and assessment in maternity
