We are looking for a suitably qualified Podiatrist with the skills and attributes required to become an enhanced level clinician. The successful candidate will be offered training and supported with their professional development including studying a relevant masters level module.

This position will involve advanced vascular assessments, wound care, casting, complex home visits and mentorship of podiatry students, support workers and apprentices.

Individuals will have opportunities to participate in audit and research.

Main duties of the job

• To be accountable in own area of clinical responsibility, ensuring the delivery of evidence based clinical 
interventions and practice for a specialist caseload.

• To triage, assess, diagnose, develop and implement individualised care programmes for a specialist 
caseload, and delegate where appropriate.

• To develop and maintain clinical assessment and patient management skills, working under the direction 
of advanced clinicians, to ensure capability to deliver all elements of the agreed service specification.

• To be responsible for an area of practice adopting a clinical champion role within a geographical team e.g. 
nail surgery, wound care, health promotion

• To continue to provide support, training and advice re the delivery of care in partnership with patients, 
relatives, staff, managers, and externally with other agencies.

• To provide professional and clinical leadership to colleagues including clinical supervision, mentorship, and 
peer review within competency frameworks to minimize clinical risk.

• To be responsible for clinical management issues including: stock control, diary management and Health 
and Safety of the work environment for self or others including reporting of incidents and near misses 
where appropriate.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Podiatry
  • Current HCPC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate module at MSc level in relevant specialist area
  • Demonstrable experience as a practice Educator of pre – registration students.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant demonstrable experience of working as a Podiatrist
  • Evidence of sound post-registration professional practice
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at a specialist level of care
  • Experience of multi-agency/professional working

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation and guidance relevant to clinical and service area
  • Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area
  • Basic IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of undertaking Clinical Audits/ Research
  • Advanced / Expert understanding of relevant clinical practice ie Wound care, vascular.
