Band 6 Specialist Gastroenterology Dietitian 

We are looking for a passionate dietitian who is enthusiastic and wants to learn.  You should have excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to work within a changing environment, commitment to team working. This post would suit either someone with some experience in paediatrics as specialist training can be provided, or a paediatric Dietitian wanting to further develop their skills in a paediatric hospital with a varied and challenging caseload. Regular supervision and support will be provided. You will also be expected to support students and junior members of the team with the guidance of the Clinical Lead.

Main duties of the job

Provide a comprehensive dietetic service to  inpatients and outpatients referred to the gastroenterology team.

Perform specialist dietetic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions to provide, develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.

Work closely with other members of the Multi-Disciplinary  Team and in conjunction with other Dietitians as required.

Provide specialist training and education on dietetic assessment and treatment of patients within this specialty to the wider multidisciplinary team and qualified and unqualified staff.

To be actively involved in implementation of specific changes to practice and contribute to service development.

  • BSc or post grad diploma in nutrition & dietetics
  • HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration training e.g. PENG
  • Clinical supervisory skills course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Adequate post registration experience of service delivery in a variety of different clinical settings
  • Experience of working with patients with diverse healthcare needs
  • Evidence of team working
  • Motivational interviewing/behavioural change skills training
  • Evidence of dietetic experience in gastroenterology
  • Evidence of teaching experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of supervising/ mentoring junior staff, dietetic assistants and students.
  • Previous experience of enteral/ parenteral nutrition and/or gastroenterology
  • Previously worked as a specialist dietitian
