Job overview

The Trust wishes to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow in Neurosurgery as part of its MTI program who will be working on the middle grade rota in a 1:12 rota with a 24/7 complex spine and cranial consultant rota to gain experience in the UK.

The post holder is required to support inpatient and outpatient cranial and spinal services at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The post holder will play a critical role in delivering the on call regional service for Hull and the Yorkshire & Humber region. The service treats patients from Hull, Scarborough, Bridlington, York, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Lincoln, Louth and Doncaster.

 

2.3       The Neurosurgical Unit has expanded from a 2 Consultant Unit to 13 Consultants and 2 Associate Specialists over the past 21 years in response to clinical demand, Government and SBNS backed developments.  The Departments of Neurosurgery, Neurology, Neuro-radiology, Neuro-rehabilitation, Neurophysiology and Neuro-pathology, are located across the 2 hospital sites, Hull Royal Infirmary (HRI) and Castle Hill Hospital (CHH) serving a population of approximately 1.2 million people.

Main duties of the job

 Neurology in-patient services are provided by a team of 6 Consultants based at Hull Royal Infirmary.

The Clinical Fellow will be part of a 1:12 work schedule rota (depending on staffing) including the allocation of theatres, clinics, MDT attendance and ward clinical duties.   

 The work programme is flexible to meet the needs of both the acute and elective demand working between Hull Royal Hospitals and Castle Hill Hospital.

The appointee will be expected to contribute to the established MDT services provided as part of their quality clinical indicators.

 The current on call commitment is 1:12 full shift rota. During the period of on call the post holder will be resident on the premises. On call rooms are available with facilities to view PACS imaging.

  • • Part 1 or complete post graduate qualification in Neurosurgery

  • • Postgraduate degree: e.g. MD, PhD

Clinical Experience

  • • Ability to offer sound clinical opinion on range of acute medical conditions
  • • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients

Management and Administration Experience
