Senior Occupational Therapist - rotation (maternity cover)

Job overview

Hull University Teaching Hospitals are seeking a band 6 Senior Occupational Therapist on a 12 month fixed term contract to join their diverse team of Allied Health Professionals. This post is to cover for a maternity leave on the Band 6 rotation - the vacancy is currently in the Medicine team at Hull Royal Infirmary but there may be a requirement for the successful candidate to move into an alternative post on the rotation, which may be at the Castle Hill site,  during the course of the fixed term contract.

Other clinical areas on the rotation are:

Trauma Orthopaedics, Rapid Response (Admission Avoidance), Oncology, Stroke, Neurosurgery, Outpatients

The post holder will work alongside colleagues to support the assessment of need across a range of clinical conditions with varying degrees of complexity.  As an occupational therapist you will have direct input into the assessment and treatment of patients, delivering evidence based interventions to facilitate recovery, prevent deconditioning, promote well being and optimise independent functioning as far as reasonably possible in all areas of life.

 

 

Main duties of the job

We are seeking applicants with proven UK experience who can demonstrate a sound clinical foundation in practice  and feel ready to make the step up to B6. The applicant should be able to adapt quickly to changing work environments and work well within a team.  You will be expected to be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team and build networks to enable appropriate partnerships with other agencies involved in patient care to both identify and address immediate and ongoing needs.

The post holder will be self motivated and aspirational, be able to assess in an effective and timely manner within a rapid paced environment. Confidence in enabling patients in positive risk taking, personalised care, assessment of capacity, cognitive assessments,  manual handling, functional assessment and knowledge of the post operative care pathways will be enhanced and nurtured within this role

Support will be provided to enhance operational management skills and the post holders will be supported to contribute to service planning, development and teaching. As a senior occupational therapist, the post holders will aspire to be a role model for their team and pride themselves on delivering high quality care, motivating their team to do the same

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited student educator

Skills, knowledge and ability

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge/experience of community equipment prescription policies and procedures
  • Demonstrable knowledge of NHS patient flow policies and procedures
Desirable criteria
  • Driver or have the ability to move themselves independently around in the wider community as required
  • Approved wheelchair prescriber

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 12 months experience working as a qualified OT in the UK/NHS
  • Demonstrable evidence of relevant clinical experience at band 5/band 6 level in the UK
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of supporting junior staff/students as part of current/recent role
  • Acute healthcare NHS experience
