Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust have recently come together to form the Humber Health Partnership. The Neurosciences Care Group provides Stroke Services across both organisations as part of this Partnership. We have 2 Hyper-acute Stroke Units, one in Scunthorpe General Hospital and one at Hull Royal Infirmary. Hull Royal Infirmary is a Comprehensive Stroke Centre providing mechanical thrombectomy and neurosurgery. This post is primarily based a Hull Royal Infirmary with the expectation that the new appointee will work to support stroke services across the Care Group.

 

Hull Royal Infirmary has the largest level 1 Hyper-acute Stroke Unit for East Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire.  Hull hyper-acute stroke service is an extremely dynamic unit currently supported by 5.70 wte Stroke Consultants (6 posts) and 7.00 wte full time Neurologists and a stroke sub-speciality registrar trainee. This is a combination of a replacement post with also potential expansion with the right candidates to support the hyper-acute stroke services and is part of the expansion of the current stroke consultant complement. The successful applicant will contribute to 1.00 wte to the stroke service.

We are looking for a dynamic and innovative individual to join our team and help to develop the delivery of high class stroke services across the Humber Health Partnership. You will be responsible for the assessment and management of patients and will participate in the on-call rota supporting hyperacute treatments including thrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy and management of intracerebral haemorrhage.  The appointee will also contribute to the recruitment of patients to clinical trials including hyperacute stroke trials.  There are currently 5 wte contributing to the on-call rota supported by stroke nurse coordinators (a band 7 stroke specialist nurse) 24/7. The nurses assess and admit patients with stroke symptoms up to the ward directly from ED.  The Stroke Consultant in ED sees patients prior to admission with support for review of patients provided by the medical team on-call out of hours.  Decisions to thrombolyse out of hours is done via either telephone, telemedicine or personal attendance. Calls are infrequent and the majority of the on-call after hours can be done from home with telemedicine provision, this will require stable internet connection to allow for reviewing hospital records, radiological images and electronic prescribing. A compensatory afternoon will be allowed off after a weekend on call.

  • MRCP(UK) or equivalent qualification
  • Valid ALS certificate

  • Postgraduate degree: e.g. MD, PhD.
