Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Humber for a full time Specialty Doctor to work in a well-established Old Age Psychiatry inpatient team. This post is flexible and can be fixed term or permanent. 

Maister Lodge is a 14 bedded Inpatient unit providing a comprehensive, needs led service to patients who are experiencing organic mental health problems.   

The ward has undergone major renovation works meaning that the environment is well suited for patients with a diagnosis of dementia.

The post holder will join an established team of Specialist Consultant Psychiatrists in Old Age alongside a wider established network of consultants covering all sub-specialties. There is weekly teaching and weekly peer-group events to support professional and personal development.

Main duties of the job

The service is supported by a dedicated service manager and a Modern Matron who provide operational and clinical support and oversight to the team.

Care is delivered by a multi-disciplinary team comprising a range of professional disciplines including registered Mental Health nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, healthcare support workers, clinical psychologists, junior medics and psychiatrists

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Specialty Doctor working for Maister Lodge , you will have responsibility for the provision of safe and effective care and treatment. You will share the vision of integrated and multi-disciplinary working and actively engage in the development of the service through research and support.

The post holder would be expected to be approved as a Responsible Clinician or be willing to undertake training to obtain Section 12(2) MHA and will be expected to renew this approval according to agreed procedures.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Relevant Medical Qualifications
  • Section 12 Approval (or apply within 6 months of offer)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in psychiatry
  • Experience of working older adult patients

Eligibility

Essential criteria
  • have been engaged in medical practice for three out of the last five years including the most recent 12 months.

Clinical Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • The diagnosis and management of complex mental illness.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Ability to assess and manage psychiatric emergencies and act independently
  • Writing comprehensive and clear medical notes.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of leadership and management
  • Ability to develop psychological formulation and apply psychological approaches to practical situations.
