Job overview

We are pleased to offer an excellent opportunity for an experienced psychotherapist to join the Specialist Psychotherapy Service (SPS) within Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust.

The service comprises of a small team of psychotherapists, psychologists and team lead and offers pathways for specialised consultation, complex case formulation, treatment and training placements across the Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire geography. 

This position would be well suited to those who have demonstrable experience in delivering psychoanalytically/ psychodynamically informed psychotherapy to patients who are struggling with complex emotional and relational challenges, as part of a multidisciplinary team. 

Main duties of the job

  • To provide specialist assessment, formulation and evidence-based psychotherapy to clients who have been referred into SPS for a range of complex emotional and relational challenges within a multi-disciplinary context.
  • To be accountable in own area of responsibility to provide specialist psychotherapy and professional direction; ensuring the delivery of evidence based and practice in partnership with service users, carers, clinicians and leads across the mental health division.

  • To provide leadership and participation in projects related to service development.

  • To contribute to the clinical supervision, training and teaching of clinical staff on training placements within the service area.

Person specification

Qualifications, Education and Training

Essential criteria
  • Master’s level of training in psychotherapy as accredited by the BPS.
  • Willingness to engage in further training to expand offering of psychotherapeutic modalities within the service, subject to service need and relevant to those experiencing complex emotional and relational difficulties.
Desirable criteria
  • Additional training and accreditation in EMDR or CAT or MBT.
  • Member of specialist interest group/network, locally or nationally Advanced/expert understanding of relevant clinical practice, standards and audits within identified clinical area
  • Evidence of undertaking research Evidence of policy implementation and development
  • Evidence of project work that has impacted on practice and demonstrates a higher level of communication/planning/change that impacts out of own area of work/responsibility

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation, drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. Mental Capacity Act, Social Inclusion Skills in providing consultation and specialist advice to other professional and non-professional groups
  • Ability to recommend and contribute to changes in service delivery and procedures within the team or service context
  • Experience of working with a variety of clients with complex needs in various care settings
  • Demonstrable vast experience of working psychotherapeutically with clients experiencing complex emotional and relational needs.
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary, multi-agency context
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or clinical supervision
  • Experience of the application of psychological practice in different cultural contexts.
