Are you an experienced graphic designer looking to make a significant impact with a new challenge? 

Join our full-service Communications Team where you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of creative projects, from campaigns through to branding, events and promotional materials.

You will be responsible for producing high-quality digital and print designs that enhance the Trust's reputation and engagement. 

You will work within established brand guidelines while also bringing a fresh and distinctive style to our communications. Your role will involve close collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver professional design solutions that support the Trust's business objectives and strategies.

You will play a vital role in promoting the Trust, its services and its commitment to patient care, supporting the Trust and its charity, Health Stars to deliver branded communications collateral ensuring assets are designed in line with the brand guidelines of the wider NHS and the Trust’s own distinctive style. There is opportunity for photography, videography and motion graphics and experience in these areas would be desirable.

 

 

Main duties of the job

  • Creative Design Solutions: Develop and deliver high-quality designs for a variety of digital channels and occasional print materials, including social media assets, videos, website graphics, infographics, PowerPoint presentations, leaflets, newsletters, exhibition graphics, and annual report
  • Brand Management: Act as a brand guardian, ensuring all designs comply with NHS guidelines while maintaining a distinctive and relevant design style. Provide advice and support on brand development and compliance.
  • Digital and Print Expertise: Utilise your skills to tailor graphics for different audiences and platforms, with proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud. Confidently manage the design process for print materials and liaise with print houses to ensure the best quality and value.
  • Team Collaboration: Support the Communications Team in planning and delivering communications activities. Work collaboratively with team members to achieve the Trust's strategic goals.
  • Photography and Videography: Opportunity to engage in photography, videography, and motion graphics, enhancing our multimedia content and visual storytelling capabilities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The position of Graphic Designer within the Trust’s Communications team, would be suitable for an experienced designer who is looking at taking the next step in their career by moving into a position with more responsibility as creative lead in graphic design for the Trust.
 
The role offers the chance to work both independently on projects where they would be able to apply their creativity and also within a larger team where collaborative working ensures large scale projects are co-produced across multimedia platforms.
 
Working as a brand guardian, the post holder will have responsibility to channel our brand across our organisation, developing and promoting our sector leading online Brand Centre.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject and/or equivalent experience working in a graphic design office or communications/marketing department.
  • Specialist knowledge of graphic design
  • Knowledge of communications, public relations, and marketing techniques, approaches and procedures gained through practical experience working in public relations, marketing, communications or as a journalist.
  • Experience of working in a similar role
Desirable criteria
  • A professional postgraduate qualification in graphic design
  • Proficient in the use of and a strong understanding of social media and online platforms (including content management systems).
  • Knowledge of how to instruct external consultancies and agencies including photographers, designers and printers
  • Knowledge of managing and creating content for digital platforms including social media.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with a wide range of professional graphic design programmes, such as Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat)
  • Demonstrable experience of producing innovative, high-quality content for a variety of audiences and a variety of channels, evidenced with a portfolio of design work
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working as part of a communications team
  • Experience of evaluating effectiveness of outputs across all channels

Skill and competencies

Essential criteria
  • Ability to interpret a project brief, assess suitable design solutions, make confident judgements and produce solutions, within budget tailored to different audiences and within brand guidelines
  • Good written, verbal, and presentation skills
Desirable criteria
  • Competent photographer with experience of taking images to use in corporate communications
  • Experience of videography from creating footage through to post-production and output.
  • Experience of using motion graphics to enhance digital content
