This is an exciting opportunity for a psychologist to join our expanding HMP team.  We are looking for an 8a clinical or forensic psychologist to work within a specialist mental health team in HMP Full Sutton or HMP Millsike. 

We are looking for a  motivated and compassionate psychologist with an interest in working with adult males who present with complex mental health difficulties.  Applicants will need to be equipped with a strong sense of responsibility and leadership as the psychology representative within the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure that evidence based psychological interventions are delivered. You will provide clinical supervision to assistant psychologists and other staff in the delivery of psychological services. You  have a good vision of the service and requirements, supporting the development of psychology within this recently established mental health team.

The post holder will be closely aligned to our medium and low secure in-patient services at the Humber centre. You will be part of a friendly and supportive team, who maintain a strong identity as a psychology department whilst also being key members of multidisciplinary teams.  We are members of the local Post-Qualification Training Network  and have a good relationship with the University of Hull. 

You will have clinical autonomy to work within your preferred models of practice, and support will be available to help you develop areas of your practice relevant to this specialist role.

The main duties of the job include:

  • To support the development of a specialist forensic/clinical psychology service within the prison mental health teams within the HMP Pathway.
  • To take responsibility and leadership as the psychology representative in a multidisciplinary team.
  • To undertake high quality direct (assessment and therapeutic) and indirect (consultative, advisory, and evaluative) specialist psychological interventions taking professional responsibility and exercising autonomous judgement in own professional practice.

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of experience in the use of a wide range of psychometric and other objective assessment tools, such as neuro-assessment, as applied in identified area
  • Skills in co-ordinating programmes of care, and providing consultation and specialist advice to other professional and non-professional groups

  • Leadership or management qualification
  • Broadly based knowledge of the theory and practice of advanced psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (eg complex PTSD, personality disorder, dual diagnosis, people with disabilities
  • Member of a special interest group/network, locally or nationally

Experience

  • Experience of excercising full clinical responsibility for service users psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care co-ordinator and within the context of a mulitdisciplinary care plan
  • Be able to effectively chair meetings
  • Evidence of advanced practice skills and able to demonstrate the impact of this on practice change/development

  • Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts
