Job overview

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated Social Worker or Nurse to work as a Family Practitioner within the Essex Drug and Alcohol Treatment service to provide a link with Children's and Family services within Essex. 

As part of a holistic model of service delivery, this role is intended to deliver a more integrated approach to the delivery of family interventions within drug and alcohol services with a further focus on identifying and supporting the needs of the whole family.

The aim of the service is to reduce substance misuse related harms, and achieve improvement in the functioning of affected families, including their ability to manage their children and maintain their safety at all times.  The service will also have a positive impact on the health, social, psychological, legal, criminal activity of these families.

The service is aimed at any family involved with Essex Children’s Social Care service with any additional needs related to drug and/or alcohol misuse.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be employed by Essex STaRS but will work between EEC's Children and Family Services and The Essex Drug and Alcohol Treatment Services :-

•           To act as an expert consultant to social care staff across C&F in relation to parental substance misuse.

•           To support social workers in their assessment and interventions with families where parental substance misuse is a dominant feature.

•           To contribute to raising awareness and understanding about the impact of substance misuse on parenting across the social care service.

•           To promote effective communication and joint working between Children’s Social Care and Adult Substance Misuse Services.

Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.

All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will work as a member of Essex STaRS in providing high quality, evidence-based, holistic care to service users in line with your professional code of conduct and Trust policies to:-

·         Ensure families where substance misuse concerns are identified, have easy and swift access to appropriate drug and alcohol services which will support them to make more informed choices about their behaviour and their ability to keep children safe and how they parent and/or live as a family. 

·         To provide services that limit the length of time families need to have contact with Children’s Social Care Services and where possible work with other treatment providers to prevent such contact.

·         To provide advice, support and information in relation to substance misuse, to professionals, including front line practitioners and senior managers. This will include all relevant and best practice Harm Reduction advice, information and service provision including signposting to appropriate substance misuse treatment and recovery services.

·         To provide access to assessment, recovery planning and appropriate interventions to families with substance misuse issues and concerns; to provide access to pre and post detoxification support for those needing community or residential detoxification. The work will be provided to Substance Misusing Adults, and families accessing Children’s Social Care services that have been either identified as at risk or affected by substance misuse. 

·         To provide data required via scoresheets to ensure the service and be monitor. Input onto the Performance Monitor Report as required.
