Job overview

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Occupational Therapist to join our supportive, inclusive and effective integrated Therapy team working on the acute medical wards at Basildon Hospital

 The successful candidate will provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and management, using evidence-based patient centered care and working with other members of the MDT to ensure that our patients maintain their independence and are discharged safely.

Our working pattern includes rostered weekend working .

Main duties of the job

Our ideal candidate will be an experienced Occupational Therapist, passionate about providing excellent care to elderly patients, with the knowledge and skills to deliver  high quality Occupational Therapy assessments, interventions, rehabilitation, and advice using evidence-based, patient centered principles.

You will work as part of the Integrated Team of Therapists  on the general medical wards, primarily at the Basildon site.  Together with other members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), they will promote independence and facilitate safe, timely and appropriate discharge

Our ideal candidate will be passionate about people and service development, offering high quality clinical and professional support to less experienced members of the team and clinical education to students on placement

You will have the knowledge skills and experience to contribute to service development, working with senior team members, professional leads, and Head of Therapies

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • You  will provide and develop a high standard of Occupational Therapy services in the General Medicine specialty (acute inpatients)
  • You will provide standard and non-standard Occupational Therapy assessments, interventions, rehabilitation, and advice using evidence-based, patient centered principles.
  • You will work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to promote independence and to facilitate safe, timely and appropriate discharge
  • You will use excellent verbal and non-verbal communication to accurately exchange information, which is often sensitive, in a variety of settings and with a variety of individuals
  • You will actively monitor, develop and contribute to service development, working with senior team members, professional leads, and Head of Therapies
  • You will be responsible for evidence-based clinical audit within the service
  • You will comply with the Trust’s health and safety and risk management policies and procedures and to establish and maintain safe systems of work within the specialty.
  • You will maintain a high standard of clinical practice through self-directed learning, peer supervision/review and attendance and participation in training and supervision sessions.
  • You will manage and develop staff members/ students within the team and wider therapies service

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Member of RCOT

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad experience of working on acute inpatient wards as Band 5 or 6
  • Experience of working with the elderly as an Occupational Therapist
  • Knowledge of inter-agency working
  • Experience of equipment provision and adaptations
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of assessing and providing wheelchairs and cusions

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Excellent Written communication skills
  • Ability to supervise effectively
