Security - Porter

Band 2

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest trusts in the country, serving a population of 1.2 million people. Our newly formed Trust, comprising acute hospital sites at Broomfield in Chelmsford, Basildon and Southend,  is determined to provide the best health services for its local population. We are a well-led, high-performing and innovative organisation working in the best interests of the people we serve.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join our wonderful Portering and Security Team as we are looking to expand our efficient and high quality service here at Braintree Community Hospital therefore enhancing and improving the service offered to all our patients, visitors, and staff.

Previous experience of working in a portering/security role within a hospital environment would be an advantage, but not essential as we offer full-training and support for all our staff. This is a full time position and you will be working on a three week rota, which does require you to work nights and weekends.

So, if you enjoy socialising with a variety of people or are someone who prefers an active role rather than an office job, then we are looking for you?

Main duties of the job

You will be a vital member of the MSE team, undertaking several different roles which include transportation of patients, specimens, goods, blood products, medical gases, and equipment around the site to facilitate the smooth running of the clinical departments and the hospital.

The job is physical in nature and includes the transportation of patients by wheelchair, patient trolley or bed, internally. You will be working with patients so experience of working in a service environment is needed and requires good communication skills.

You will need to have the ability to respond to emergency calls in a calm and professional manner.

We are a small integrated team at BCH and you could be called on in an emergency to help the domestic staff.

Working for our organisation

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest in the country, with a workforce of approximately 17,000 who serve a population of 1.2 million people.

We work together, and in conjunction with MSE Health and Care Partnership, to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients in a compassionate way, and provide a respectful, but vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

From facilities through to consultant specialists we want to be the best, to achieve this we need to recruit not just those who are the finest in their field but also those who have the potential to be. Yes, experience is important but so is outlook – if you are dynamic, forward-thinking and enthusiastic we want you to join us.

We not only offer you a good working environment with flexible working opportunities, but also the opportunity to develop your career with access to appropriate training for your job and the support to succeed and progress.
