An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated social worker to join Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) as locally we invest in the development of social workers and as we work closely with local universities and partner with ‘Think Ahead’.

If you are a Social Worker with significant experience, looking for an exciting opportunity to impart your skills and knowledge to the next generation of social work professionals? If so, we have the perfect role for you.

This exciting pilot will see Social Workers spending a ‘legacy’ period, supervising, supporting, and handing over their career insights to students, following significant experiences in social care. The role will be supporting students in Community Mental Health/Community Forensic Mental Health settings using a model that helps students on placement and newly qualified social workers to develop their skills, knowledge and capability and strengthen their professional confidence.

Main duties of the job

The Legacy Practitioner will be responsible for inspiring and promoting the social work profession across the system, as well as undertaking clinical education with their students and learners face to face/virtually and delivering presentations as appropriate.

Key responsibilities include ensuring clinical training to learners is provided using up-to-date evidence-based information and guidance, demonstrating own clinical skills, and supporting and providing clinical learning opportunities for students.

The post holder will also be responsible for overseeing and working alongside students, newly qualified social workers, Think Ahead partners and those returning to practice as well as supervisors and practice educators providing regular support and facilitating reflection in practice.

The successful candidate will be required to be a registered Social worker with current Social Work England registration and hold an accredited teaching qualification or have equivalent experience (e.g. Supervisor / assessor preparation/practice educator) and have excellent communication and leadership skills.

Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This post will support the workforce across an agreed geographical or specialist area supporting the teaching of learners pre and post registration. This is an exciting pilot which would see Social Workers spending a ‘legacy’ period, supervising, supporting, and handing over their career insights to students, following significant experiences in social care. The role will be supporting students in Community Mental Health/Community Forensic Mental Health settings using a model that helps students on placement and newly qualified social workers to develop their skills, knowledge and capability and strengthen their professional confidence.

The role of the Legacy Practitioners also ensures collaboration with Education Leads and Universities across Mid & South Essex partnership, including Think Ahead partners, to increase placement capacity across health and social care. The role provides an opportunity to transfer skills and expertise to others and inspire the next generation of social workers. The successful pilot of this role will support the ambition that this post can become a dedicated role within organisations so that experienced social workers have the opportunity to feel a sense of achievement with imparting their skills & knowledge to others. The role will require a degree of flexibility and creativity and the postholder will be required to occasionally work from home using technology.
