Job overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Biomedical Scientist to join the friendly team in the Cellular Pathology department at the Broomfield Hospital site of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
Cellular Pathology at Broomfield Hospital is a busy department that incorporates Histology and Non-gynae sample preparations. The department handles approximately 30,000 specimens p.a. and specializes in Breast; Head & Neck; upper GI and lymphoma work and has close liaison with oncology research trials and Anglia Ruskin University.
The department has full training status granted by IBMS and has close links with Essex University for placement students. Staff are actively encouraged to maintain continuous professional development required for state registration and to attend lunchtime lectures/journal club.
The laboratory is working towards UKAS accreditation and is licensed by HTA.
Main duties of the job
Your role will be to work as part of a team to provide high quality, cost effective and timely Histology service.
You will process histology specimens in accordance with agreed policies and standard operating procedures. You will be expected to participate in all aspects of the histology department, using technical expertise to a high standard throughout all investigations and meeting deadlines as required for subsequent patient care.

Registered with Health Professions Council and comply with code of practice of IBMS and HPC.
Undertake all aspects of tissue preparation work in the department, including specimen reception and cut up, meeting quality standards.
Assist in small specimen cut up by selecting tissues for further processing by following departmental procedures.
Responsible for maintaining appropriate stocks of consumables and reagents.
Contribute to the development of new methodologies, as required for improvement of the service or research within the department.
To conform to established policies and codes of practice within the department and participate in the internal quality procedures as well as taking part in EQA.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
